I am sure Wade will have them ready to play tonight. Going 2-1 with your only loss being to Notre Dame would be a big accomplishment for the program.

This team isn't beating Marquette baw.

ND is pretty damned good.

It’s going to take awhile for LSU to find its footing

hey set in ways. I've played in more competitive basketball games then you've watch in your lifetime. Don't get it twisted. If you think Wade did a very good job at coaching last night then you are wearing the blinders. It's not a good look for you.

Most of your thoughts are the result of overreacting to good play and expecting us to be able to compete with everyone all the time. As to the more specific complaints...
quote:

Unacceptable. I understand that Notre Dame is a great team with senior leadership, but they shouldn't be 50 points better than us. It was an ugly defeat. Hopefully a learning experience

I think we played about how you'd expect us to play, and ended up losing by 39 because ND was shooting lights out and we shot poorly. If those two things evened out a bit this would have been a 20ish point loss, which is what you'd expect against a team like ND.

quote:

Wade didn't do a very good job coaching last night. Waited too long to call a time-out and re-group the team in the first half.

I don't totally agree with this. We were actually helped by some perfectly timed TV timeouts in situations where we probably would have called one ourselves. We also started coming back a bit mid way through the half, mostly on the back of the 1-3-1 (which I think looked pretty good). But then ND figured out the zone/drilled every shot and blew it away. Also, I know we all love Will Wade, but let's not forget that he's a young coach who we took a chance on because we expect him to be great. He's still learning too, and hopefully this is a learning experience for him as well as the team.
quote:

I'm afraid this team will struggle with Sampson out 3-4 weeks.

Yea that's a big loss.
quote:

Marquette tonight at 7 p.m. I just ask that we're competitive. Don't expect us to win tonight with Sampson out, but let's compete at a high level, because last night there was nothing that resembled competing.

Tonight will be an early test of how we handle adversity. Losing a key player and coming off a blowout, do our guys just mail it in and then go enjoy their night in Hawaii? Or do we show some heart and give Marquette everything we've got? Obviously hoping for the latter, and hopefully Wade finds a way to motivate the guys.

I agree. They won as a team (staff and players) and looked great doing it against Michigan.

They deserved the praise.

Last night they lost as a team (outplayed and coached) and deserve the same criticism in reverse.

Reath's play was about the only positive from last night.

You may be right.... hell I've played in more competitive basketball games then I've watched too. After college I went on about a 10 year sabbatical from watching BBball. I just needed to get away from it for a while. I've only started watching again since the kids have been around as an effort to escape the insanity!! With that being said I'll still put my (college) BBall IQ up against just about anybody.

Just don't kid yourself that calling timeouts is going to make or break Wade's success at LSU.... it's waaaaaay deeper than that as you know. Well coached teams are well coached if the coach is in the gym or vacationing in Hawaii.

Wade did everything he could I feel like. Made the switch to the 1-3-1 midway through the first half and once that stopped working we attempted to play a 2-3 zone ND is a damn good team, probably the best team we will play all year. This game was a good learning experience for our team IMO.

I think they were tired after the emotional win and youre not beating a team like ND with 15+ turnovers. ND is a good team and would not surprise me if they went far.

Seeing Aaron Epps go 0-7 in the first half jacking up 3 point attempts with no one in position to get a rebound had me thinking Johnny Jones was on the sidelines.

The fact that no one was in position to get a rebound was not the worst part. Notre Dame was draining shots in transition all night without "rebounders". The shot selection was poor because most of the shots were contested, off the dribble, and not in rhythm of the offense. As a shooter it's much easier to catch and shoot a pass from from a kick-out or an "extra" pass after a kick out than to do what LSU was doing last night. This is why Notre Dame shot so well and LSU didn't.

People who thought this team was suddenly amazing were always in for a rude awakening.

Pretty much this. Last night was a necessary evil to see where we stack up against the best of the best. We have a lot of growing to do. Anyone with eyes and a brain can see Wade has these guys on the right path. We'll get there.

We were sloppy last night, took some bad shots and didn't maintain the kind of defensive intensity we saw against Michigan but goddamn... Notre Dame is really, really good. I was kind of blown away.

Would have lost by maybe 30 instead of 40 IMHO>

I agree, I'm all in on Wade but he's still learning himself....we looked like a CJJ coached team last night, lost in transition, lost on switches and rotations, wide open 3's all night. ND is good but much of that was about us not them.

IDK, Marquette's a team we should be able to compete with. Just have to clean up a lot. If we improve upon the things we can I see no reason we can't be right with them at the end, in fact I expect to be.

I hate the timeout argument anyway, people act like that’s a magical bullet that always stops the bleeding. Now I get Johnny treated his timeouts like jew gold but man people use this way too often to criticize

Yes... they are very good. It was a sobering thing to watch. They are the exact definition of well coached team and most of their guys have been in that system for multiple years. This is where I use my "in game/out of game" coaching argument with regard to college basketball. 95% of the coaching occurs in practice... drilling in the offensive/defensive scheme and establishing identity. Notre Dame would have won by 30 last night had their coach stayed home. These baws on here talking about Wade's usage of timeouts are completely insane.

All those OOC teams we have left after this tournament are going to be monumentally more difficult. I expect us to drop tonight and a 3-4 of those games as well.

fortunately we only have 2 games between tonight and December 10. If we can get Sampson back before Christmas, we should be fine

This isn't a response directed at you setinways, you were just the last post.

My take on it is similar to yours and others, we got our butts whipped by a better, more crisp team.

It's much easier to use "new techniques" when you are controlling the game, but when you are getting beat in every facet people tend to revert to their old ways.

Last night, I saw LSU take on the chin early and completely revert. To me, that's not on the coach, that's on the previous coaches these kids had/ it being game 4 of year 1. It was obvious against Michigan that CWW has taught these guys how he wants them to play, it's not his fault that when it broke down the guys reverted to one on one street ball.

How many of you have coached a sport before? I'm sure many. And if you have, you know that it's difficult to make in game adjustments/coach up the players during breaks when EVERYTHING is going wrong. From a coach's standpoint, where do you begin? Defense is awful, Offebse is terrible, we're turning the ball over like crazy, and giving up open looks left and right.

Now, I don't get paid millions and CWW does so he should have a better answer to that question than I do but I think he tried to correct what he could (switching zones on D) and hoped it would settle the team down and allow them to adjust to the rest.

Point blank, there was so much going wrong that there was only so much the coach could do to stop the bleeding.

Hopefully it will clear out the morons who were yelping sweet 16 and SEC Champions after beating a average at best Michigan team.

I'll now be able to enjoy the rebuild without a bunch of idiots questioning everything...

He never figured it out in his two years at Tech, at this point I'd like Rachal and Edwards, either one more....at least from the little I've seen.
