Myles Brennan looked rough, that’s a given. But maybe we put him in a better position if we get a TE that wants to block.

Gilbert, not to throw any shade, isn’t a blocker and doesn’t look like he’s into that idea. He’s more like a really big receiver.

So let him be WR #3 and let’s put in another OL player just like the Saints are currently doing in some plays against the packers right now.

A player that comes to mind is Charles Turner. Athletic, coach says he can play Tackle. He also played some TE in high school. A 6 man OL blocking on obvious passing plays with 3 wide and a RB or 4 wide with no back could be a lot more effective.

Giving Brennan 6-7 guys blocking for him will give him a lot more confidence in the pocket.
He looked nervous and his OL didn’t help giving up 7 sacks.

Absolutely not lol. Gilbert is going to have to learn how to chip and block better. We just cannot use 6 or 7 man protection

This idea is stupid.

OL played as bad if not worse than Brennan. So many free rushers or less than 2 second pockets on 3 and 4 man rushes.

Edit: loljk Brennan is Brandon Harris 2.0

I think we need a better Left Tackle. Rosenthal was out there doing his best Bobby Hart impersonation at times. I think we need to consider limiting going empty backfield until things change. But Brennan needs to see the field better and get the ball out instead of holding it forever. Many times he abandoned the pocket when it was very much intact and ran right into the defense. All those sacks aren't because of the offensive line.

Brennan NEVER stepped up in the pocket, and at least 4 sacks were on him holding the ball to long and scrambling into the defender.

All he has to do is step up in the pocket and extend the play. You can’t hold the ball for 3+ seconds

he had time most snaps, he needs to get better at stepping up and keeping eyes downfield. it just looked like everything was too fast for him out there. he'll get better as the season goes on

So, you want to take an offense that had people running free all game long and change it by taking away one of those that was constantly running free? Right......

Soooo.........you guys are mad at him for holding on to the ball too long and not getting it out there, but the fix is to step up into the pocket and “extend the play”???

frick Les Miles strategy of blocking with 9 and having a 1 receiver route. Have a qb that can get the ball out in 2.5 seconds. Tell Brennan that is the only thing to work on this week. In next game he has 3 strikes, then he’s out. The only stat he will be measured on is time to release. After the 3rd time it happens next week, he gets pulled.

First off I know Brennan is nnt Burrow but burrow's first season here, holding onto the ball for too long was a major problem for him too but that 2018 team executed better and carried him a little until he figured it out.

Agreed, even with the hyperbole. If you get in a habit of using heavy or max protect formations (as we once did) you will end up with a death spiral (as we did) of:

A) the more people you keep in, the more they rush. TE blocks, LB blitzes.
B) At the same time you are not increasing the number of blockers to rushers, because every blocker staying in brings a rusher, you are limiting the QBs options which if covered he has no options with rushers coming from every angle and increasing the time for that play to develop even if they come open.

And forget about YAC.

I truly belive part of this is on the WRs. They were not making the proper reads and adjusting to the coverage, post-snap. Some of the beauty that was Joe Burrow was that he was able to throw to a spot before the route break and throw the WR open.

Brennan lacks that confidence because he and the WRs aren't on the same page and is waiting for them to flash open before throwing the ball giving coverage time to recover. The end result is holding the ball too long, WRs having catches contested more than they should, and then no YAC because coverage had time to recover.

I understand where you’re coming from - Gilbert is a big WR unlike Moss who could actually block. And Curry let the guy go right by him on the big 3rd down late
