It was pretty obvious when the senior PG that came with him walked away. He’s lost the locker room.

Shift focus to Women’s team. Undefeated and ranked #4 with #1 South Carolina game coming up in a few weeks.

They definitely suck but that sequence where it went from like 23-11 to 38–13 in like 2 minutes showed me there are bigger issues than talent

Yeah, I wish I could agree with those that say it's just talent. Unfortunately I've watched games against teams earlier this year that are at least as good as Arky and we looked significantly better. There has been a serious regression, the body language is terrible and the things aside from talent that can be done well are not.

This team has 0 confidence in anything.
Alot of that comes from constantly bricking everything they shoot. Even layups are being bricked and I believe it's bottomed this team out.
Doesn't help that CMM seems to be a pretty low key guy.

Perfect example was when Fountain went to the goal and just flat blew an easy layup. You can see his body language just melt. I think 99% of it right now is mental.

This team needs something good to happen, quickly.

But, I didn't see a team that quit. They just simply suck right now.

teams take after their coach. CMM has no energy and no passion for coaching. at least not visibly.

vanilla trent johnson circa 2010 is what we have

Absolutely that is a factor. That was not so much an issue earlier in the season against Kansas St. (although the second half was) Wake Forest, Arky at home and Kentuck. I mean it's like a totally different team now from those games.

Tentative, soft....No one seems to want to shoot, seems an aversion to contact.

KJ was shooting 50% from 3 following the KY game, I wonder what he's shot sense from 3, and it's more than teams taking it away....just like it's more than we suck, have no talent and can't shoot. It's deeper.

Sure, that's a part of it but not to this extent. Confidence is totally shot and I don't know at this point a path to getting it back.

Quit implies that what we are seeing was optional.

This team has been totally defeated. They couldn't fix this in any real way if they tried.

first time I can ever remember betting against my Tigers....I took Arky at -12.5 knowing that i would be pissed at the end but at least I had $ to dry my tears with.....just felt dirty in the end though.

I think the's two things can and do exist at the same time in our case - the talent ain't that great and is underachieving.

I say this without reservation because I've seen this same collection of talent minus a guy who was giving us nothing in Juice play much better than it is now.

And I tend to agree with you that at this point it may be beyond fixing this year as it's become very mental and they seem to be defeated and deflated.

There is no question the psyche is fragile and easily defeated. But I also think a big reason for that is the players don't believe in the staff's ability to find any answers. For the last 7 games LSU has continued with essentially the exact same approach. A low tempo, half-court approach with VERY predictable sets. Why not try increasing the tempo a bit? Extend your defense. Try to force some turnovers and turn those into transition points/easy buckets. So it may lead to a bit of an increase in your turnover numbers. So what? You are 4th in the league in fewest TOs per game and still getting arse-raped by 18 ppg. It can't get much worse. Make it a point of emphasis to try to get the ball to the rim and to the foul line. You are dead last in FG% and second to last in FG attempts (which is remarkable considering you aren't turning the ball over at a bad rate). Perhaps try to generate some scoring from the FT line.

Good coaches find the necessary adjustments in a season, and games,...even if it is not the style they prefer. We watched Wade several times over the past 5 years ratchet up the tempo and extend the defensive pressure on nights the offense was sluggish. Many times it led to some pretty remarkable comebacks. Coach K played a zone defense in the Zion season, even though that was something he hardly ever did in his career.

Right now McMahon seems content to run out the exact same approach game after game regardless of its clear ineffectiveness. And when it inevitably leads to LSU falling behind big he doesn't deviate outside of an awkward zone defense here or there. As a player it is hard to have confidence if you know your HC is going to demand you to do the same thing over and over without any hope for a different result.

Look I'm not ready to give up on CMM, it's way too early. But I am concerned and I was not expecting to be concerned at this point as I thought I knew about where we were relatively speaking.

But he did say one thing after the first two losses that kind of speaks to what you are saying. He said, teams have figured out what we're doing now so we're going to have to adjust. I really haven't seen alot different, so not quite sure what those adjustments are. They ain't working though.

Absolutely agree. Going into SEC play I thought if this team could go 4-4 in the first 8 that would be great, and they would be playing meaningful basketball in February into March. Even 3-5 with some tough battles against the likes of Alabama and, especially Auburn and Tennessee at home would be encouraging. But starting with the A&M game this team has taken a complete nosedive where they don't do ANYTHING well...and all signs point to it getting worse...not better.

Arkansas wasn't playing all that great going into last night's game. They were 1-4 in their last 5 games with some uncompetitive losses to Alabama and Vanderbilt. Yet, LSU was well out of the game early...trailing by 24 at the half!!! Every outward sign shows a team that is deflated and defeated...that includes the head coach who looks like he has long waived the white flag on any chance of success the rest of the way, and is just going through the motions until the end of the season that can't quite come soon enough. The last time we saw a coach and team with this much apathy was Jones' final season at LSU where he knew it was the end of his coaching tenure here.

This is McMahon's first season and neither he nor his team are showing any kind of fight. That is very concerning IMO.
