No question. As you've stated, the talent is there, just need to get the guys coached up and ready to play.

“Not a miracle worker”

I don’t know how good Jimbo might be at A&M, but he has won multiple titles if you consider divisional, conference, and national.. So, it’s not like the man doesn’t have numerous skins on his wall. Florida State was 7-6 three out of the last four years before Jimbo took over. In his first year as the head coach at Florida State he was 10-4 with a divisional title. Starting in his third year and for three year period he was 39-3. That’s pretty high cotton for any coach in a power five conference.

When you talk about his cost, I think you had to take into consideration the sizable difference in war chest you find at LSU as opposed to A&M.

Look, I’m not saying the men’s the next Saban but he’s been pretty damn successful in his chosen field.

Miles at the end of his tenure was not the Miles that won championships. When Miles got the job he took risks, early and often. That was his calling card. When you're willing to do things strategically that the other guy won't then that's an edge. Once he stopped taking chances, he lost his edge.

That's not Orgeron. Come to think of it I really don't know what his thing is besides motivation (allegedly) and sticking his nose into offensive affairs where it doesn't belong.

Miles was a terrible game day coach from 2008 on, yet had some good seasons.

Where does the head coaches nose belong?

I'm not sold on Orgeron as the guy who can rebuild the program but he's got a chance this year to prove it. I'm perfectly fine with that

What Orgeron brings to the table is, he’s not stuck to one thing or game plan, he’s willing to adapt. Orgeron will take risks just not risks similar to Miles.

Hopefully O’s learned from last year, how to better handle adversity such as with the failure of his kickers last year. Adversity will come this year for every team and coach, you just don’t know from where.

Certainly showed that vs ND.

I have some doubts, but the pieces are in place. Orgeron will have to create and stick to a system, let's see if he can do it.

You can say what you will about his coaching abilities, but it was his willingness to take chances that put him in position to win on multiple occasions.

Not in matters in which he is not a subject matter expert.

You also have to take another factor into account : expectations.

A&M is paying him win now money but what happens if it’s year 4 and he still doesn’t have a west title? This isn’t the ACC he doesn’t get Syracuse Wake Forest Boston college , you get Mississippi State Arkansas and Auburn. Are you able to still feel confident your school made the right hire if you’re 3 years in without a title? It doesn’t really matter because no matter what they owe him the money for another 7.

So, Saban should never be involved in the offense...

A$M fricked up badly. They just raised the cost of their next coach to 8m+ a year. That bar is never coming down

Saban has the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe if we are having this conversation 20 years ago talking about Michigan State Head Coach Nick Saban , sure, you don’t afford 1998 Nick Saban the benefit of the doubt.

Saban is a football subject matter expert.

If you’re smart enough you can tweak whatever you want.

O isn’t even smart enough to run the defensive side of the ball.

I’d rather Saban run mymoffense than O run my defense.

Head coaches are always involved in game planning on both sides of the ball.

I guess you conveniently and selectively missed this part of my post.

"What team was FSU's biggest competition in his early years in the ACC?"

Good?

I'm thinking 24-3, 15-3 playing in the SEC west(2010,2011) when it was the best division in college football equates to better than "good", but each to our own.

We paid our last 2 coaches less than the coach that proceeded them
