Agreed! Should be a great season.

The QBU stuff I might put on hold for a bit, though...

But the avalanche of good news for the Tigers really began when Coach Orgeron got one of Ohio St's top QB's to transfer to LSU, it was then that numerous major high school recruits began committing to the LSU football program
This is exactly when there was a shift in optimism. Getting Burrow was a big deal. Yes he does still have to prove himself, but it's pretty obvious he's an upgrade.

Like I said, positivity is great, but with that comes expectations. The criticism comes when the results don't meet the expectations that were set by the positivity beforehand.

He is easy to read. He says dumb stuff like that to provoke a response that he or others in his gang can then label as negative.

We all know getting Joe was a really good get for LSU. Most us also know he was going to be a reserve at OSU. So, he has questions about his ability that have yet to be answered as does most of the offense.

LSU should be better with Joe than they would have without him. How much better no one will know until September.

You are correct. But as of now, it's good news.

Expectations at LSU are and should always be very high. Unfortunately, criticism in this forum comes long before the results of this year have been determined.

You can count on the usual juvenile suspects to "Derek" any such posts.

If Durant has burner accounts I’m willing to make the leap of faith that Derek does spend most of his days defending O on various channels.

That criticism is based on the HC's past results. Every coach is based on his past results. Good news is he can change the narrative but he has to get the results first. We're not going to assume that he will get them.

If I were an advocate of Orgeron I would undersell and hope he overdelivers. All of the "yeah, but Saban" comments do him no favors. If people compare him to greats, then that's the standard he'll be judged on at all times, not when just when it helps them to make a point.

Well, initially you stated that criticism comes when results do not meet expectations. So I was responding to that definition. There is always an opportunity to select a segment or time period to skew (good and bad) nebulous terms like "expectations" and "past results". The original post was really about off season "results."

But you can broaden it to overall record, for example, to show it is negative. It's really a matter of outlook. I'm happy for positive off-season "results." If they don't translate to positive season record "results" -- I will criticize. Just not ready to jump the gun until I see those "results."

Outlook without consideration of past performance is more fantasizing than anything else.

Well-- O's past performance this offseason was a positive result. So, my outlook did take that into consideration. Which would mean by your own definition, I am not fantasizing.

I agree with you that positive off-season outlook can be drastically changed by season's performance and results. That was one of my very first posts in this thread. But, it's OK to be positive with the off-season while waiting for season's results.

Since when did we start doing this though, examining every year as its own entity without past results being taken into account? This seems like something that hasn't been afforded to previous coaches. I'm sure Miles would've appreciated being able to coach out the rest of his season before being judged on it.

Sounds like all the pieces are in place for a serious step forward.

Throw in the fact that LSU plays 5 teams with new head coaches, a Miami team coached by mark richt (who doesn’t know how to run an offense) and there’s really no excuses why this team can’t get to 10-2!
