How is he wrong?

There are 30 MLB teams made up of the best players in the WORLD.
There are about 300 universities that play div 1 baseball teams made up of the best players in mostly America.
The top teams in college baseball should be heads and shoulders above below average teams.

You can’t use mental fatigue as an excuse to lose a baseball game in the second game of the year. LSU lost that game yesterday due to several poor coaching decisions by CPM which started with wasting his closer in a 6-1 game on Saturday. The decisions only got worse from there.

Pawl has Les Miles the baseball program. It’s not that the sky is falling it’s just here we go again syndrome. I do agree it’s a tad premature to freak out after second game but it’s not just the second game. It’s a decade+ of failures according to the LSU baseball standards.

Position players left from

LSU's 2017 Recruiting Class (Would be SRs)

Braden Doughty

LSU's 2018 Recruiting Class

Drew Bianco
Gavin Dugas
Giovani Digiacomo
Cade Beloso

LSU's 2019 Recruiting Class

Cade Doughty (x)
Alex Millazo (x)
Zach Arnold (x)
Mitchell Sanford
Hayden Travinkski
Collier Cranford
Maurice Hampton

Simply put, LSU has some SEC caliber players, sure. But WHERE. ARE. THE. DUDES.

You keep hearing how all of these teams are going to benefit from players returning because of the draft. But LSU's 2017-2018 recruiting classes were putrid by LSU standards, and have nothing to show for it this season.

And 2019 does not look like it will yield much either.

There has been a recruiting problem at LSU for a few years now. And if you date back to 2018 when PM had ZERO left handed pitchers on his roster, you knew that was beginning of the end.

On top of poor recruiting, the guys with the most upside are seemingly blocked by guys PM think is better.

Mainly:

Travinksi

Mo Hampton (who may get to play now because of Gio injury)

Brody Drost

The best MLB teams win 100-110 games a year. That means that they go home 50-60 times a year a loser

Wow, such profound analysis. Glad we had a REAL baseball expert visit the board to drop this gamechanging info.

In case you haven’t noticed, LSU plays in the NCAA and doesn’t play 162 games per year. In the last 10 years, 8 out of 10 national champions lost fewer than 20 games and the last 2 champions have lost exactly 12 games over the course of the season.

And to expand on that more, the “muh funny game”rant myth stems from the fact that a great MLB team can lose to a shitty one because they use 5 man pitching rotations and end up having ridiculous pitching mismatches, which makes it impossible to win certain series. In college baseball, we have 3-man evenly matched (both teams throw their ace Friday, #2 guy Saturday, #3 guy Sunday) rotations and the better team generally wins.

This..... MLB teams may lose a lot, but they aint dropping games to farm teams, which is essentially what LSU does a few times a year

Gonna be disappointing for those who think this team is going to host a regional.

I think it's early to make that call. We've literally seen two games, all riddled with errors at 3rd base that cost the team pretty significantly. 2 unearned runs in the 2nd inning yesterday were the difference in the game. Pitching should keep this team in any game. Find answers on the left side of the infield and you've got a pretty solid defense.

Hitting is definitely suspect. I'm not sure how that's going to pan out.

I can see why they are picked to finish 4th in the west. This team has a few talented players but several very average players also. Gonna be disappointing for those who think this team is going to host a regional.

The SEC west is stacked. 6-8 right now in the top 10 are all teams from the SEC west. I think there is a good chance the SEC gets 6 hosts for the regional LSU included.

Florida
Vanderbilt
Arkansas
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
LSU

All these teams could host

There is a reason the MLB has spring training. It takes time to get going even for the greatest players in baseball.

Take for example the Orioles one of the worst teams right now in the MLB. They can even sweep the Yankees one of the most talented teams in the MLB right now.

It was a bad loss for us yesterday I’ll admit that but in baseball you lose games like that and you are still in good shape.

BTW everyone drops a few games to “farm teams” in college baseball. It’s hard to go undefeated in OOC games.

Most college baseball players were also pitchers.

Baseball is a game based off of failure. Our fans have a football mentality where perfection must be established. They don’t understand how different baseball and football are. Football, you almost have to be perfect in order to be successful, and with baseball, you’re only successful about 20-40% of the time.

The 2000 National Championship team started out 6-0 then lost 5 straight including a game to McNeeese State. Just sayin'.

How many times would the Orioles beat the Yankees in "spring training" if the Yankees had 3 months to practice outside on the field while the Orioles were stuck in the indoor cages and bullpen mounds?

We lost to a far inferior team who has had snow on their field since November.

I admit it’s a bad loss but lets not count us out after one loss. I still think this team hosts a regional.
