I see people concerned about our lack of elite RBs. There doesn't seem to be a huge correlation with elite RBs and team success however. We had good but not great RBs in 2003,2007,2011. Having guys like fournette and guice is not common even for championship teams. Addai was probably the best out of all of the backs on those 3 teams and he really peaked in the NFL more so than in college.

If Joe is a legit QB and our offensive line plays better than last year's group we should be fine at RB.

It's an insecure fan base. As long as we have good line play we will be fine.

Don't get me wrong it would be great to have someone like fournette. But those guys come along once every 25 years if you're lucky.

I think that’s why you don’t see NFL teams spend a lot of draft capital on RBs.

2003 and 2007 had Mauck and Flynn. 2011 has 3 or 4 RB’s who played in the NFL and 2 Sr QB’s. When was the last time LSU had a combo of inexperienced QB and RB play. And this teams oline has concerns. They can all turn out to be a great units but this is why people have doubts and they aren’t getting much respect.

i think the concern is more with the unknown bs them not being great.

this is the first time in a long time we don’t have a guy that had significant carries coming back.

we’ve been blessed that we’ve always seemed to have significant contributors returning until this year.

I like CEH and can’t wait to see what Curry and Brossette can do as well

Well the reason most people think we're going to suck is because of our running game (or lack thereof).

If it ends up being pretty decent, we should honestly be a very good team.

Its going to look strange at first, but you dont have to run right up the middle into a 9 man front. I've seen some pro games where they actually throw the ball to a RB in stride, crazy stuff going on.

I think that is seriously underplaying what we had in 2011 and at least a bit disingenuous for 2003 and 2007.

2003

10 Joseph Addai
22 Alley Broussard
25 Justin Vincent

2007

5 Keiland Williams
26 Richard Murphy
32 Charles Scott
ETA Fullbacks:
18 Jacob Hester
34 Steven Ridley

2011

11 Spencer Ware
14 Terrence Magee
27 Kenny Hilliard
42 Michael Ford

2003 and 2007 we had known seasoned QBs to go with our stable of backs.

2011 we had 2 senior QB who were better than people on this board want to admit, 3 running backs who had already shown flashes of how good they were and an O-line without the question marks.

I think the concern is that we simply haven't seen the typical RB play from the backs we have become accustomed to at LSU in the last few decades. Though you might say we have with Brossette at 6.7 YPC but his fumble against Troy has muted that somewhat. CEH, Curry, and Provens have their vocal supporters but all 4 backs need to prove themselves and quickly.

With good QB play, every one of these backs get better, but the unknowns are what give people pause, even if they cannot properly vocalize it.

We aren't talking about all pro guys. Other than Ware who recently started getting better those guys are marginal NFL players. Not the caliber of guice and fournette

Flynn wasn't seasoned

Mauck was injured for most of 2002 season

Because he was hurt most of his career. Similar to Duece imo. Never broke 1k yards in a season in college due to injuries.

Kinda agree with your larger point but Justin Vincent was very VERY effective the second half of 2003. He just totally disappeared afterwards.

The RBs we have now appear to be less talented than the ones in those years.

When is the last time Clemson had an “elite” RB?
