The returning starter argument

The media keeps saying we're goin to struggle because we don't have many starters coming back but I can argue that some of these replacements are upgrades from the starters last year.
Jacob Phillip/Tyler Tayor for Donnie Alexander is an upgrade
Ed Alexander and Braden Fehoko for Gilmore and Lacatoure is an upgrade
Chassion for Key(last year) is an upgrade
Divinity/Thortan for Corey Thompson is arguable
On offense Shadiiq Charles is a upgrade over Malone

Oh, off season, you never fail to get us every year.

I think Kary Vincent will be better than DJ & KT. Depth is lacking though.

On the offensive side I think they talk more about how most of the players that had 90% of the production are gone with etling, chark, guice, Williams and gage and are being replaced by players that are inexperienced and are unknowns which is a fair stance.
With that said you could also make the same argument about Georgia's defense but no one will have that take.

Maybe you're right, but the problem is that none of this is backed up by any sort of data.

Yu can make an argument the receiving corps with the QB has more upside than Etling-Chark-Gage.

Edwin was hurt but on par with Gilmore probably even as a freshman. He’s obviously an upgrade.
Breiden is an overall better athlete than Lac but his technique is poor right now
Chaisson is going to be one of the most important pieces this season. He’s really our only good pash rusher at OLB.
Replacing Thompson is tough. He’s a guy with safety skills but the physicality of a linebacker. He was taking on blocks and setting the edge like a champion. If he played more against State I think the defense would’ve been a lot better.
ETA: both Thornton and Divinity can match Thompson’s physicality but I doubt they can replace his athleticism at that field position. Divinity can probably drop a little better and Thornton has tremendous length to take on blocks.

Of course you can and I agree with that but at the same time we're saying that as fans and knowing more about our team and our players then most national sports writers who aren't going to dig as deep into the roster as we do in the off-season.

You can argue it, but the reality is that they're all still question marks.
We tend to assume the most optimistic outcomes for all of those guys because we're the fans but why should outsiders view them as anything other than question marks?
Not only do we assume all of our question marks will pan out, but we assume that all of our opposition's question marks won't work out. In reality, some of those guys will be good, some won't.

OP is right.
Look at where Phil Steele has had Alabama the last 2 years.
