So much talent.
So much pain.
Way to young to die.
Forever LSU!

Was fortunate to see him play in the Cow Palace as a youngster. Every game was like a magic show. People would give him a standing ovation just from him dribbling up court.
No one I’ve ever seen since has come close to being as exciting.

He passed before my time and I wasn’t able to witness the goat but my principal in highschool played at South Eastern and against Pete. It was incredible to hear how difficult it was to guard him.

He always said the same thing “Everyone always talks about the scoring but his passing opened up everything. When he crossed half court you had no idea what was gonna happen

Pete averaged 44.2 points a game over three years. That was before there was a three point shot. I read somewhere that if he had a three point shot his average would have been well into the 50s per game.

I've posted this previously but feel the need to do so again as we assess Pete's greatness.

When Pete played players were required to keep their entire hand on top of the basketball when dribbling or risk being called for carrying the ball.

Imagine what he could have done if given the leeway of modern players.

Right...but that is just based on where he was actually taking shots, and not where he WOULD HAVE had there been a line to see and purposefully step behind. No question with his skill set and attitude that with a 3 point line it would have been near 60.

It would have been even sillier than it was.

Saw a video where if LSU had the ball at the end of the game, he'd head toward the right halfcourt corner and shoot a hook shot. More than not, he'd make it. In the same video, it said his dad would put him in their car and make him dribble and try to keep up,if I remember right, they got to 30 or 40 mph.
From all the videos I've seen of his days at LSU, his shooting, passing and dribbling were phenomenal and there wasn't a 3 pt. line(43.8,44.3,44.5 were his yearly averages and had 3667 total points (which is the record in just 3 years),freshmen didn't play back then either).

Not only didn't he have a three point line but there wasn't a shot clock. His life was a great testimony. From hard working kid to All American, signed the first million dollar contract to his being born again and preaching. He was an awesome man.

Back when Pete played the old Cow Palace would rock on it's foundation from the fan reactions. It was sheer magic then. Pete wasn't only a great BB player, he was a great showman as well.

I was listening on the radio from my apartment in BR. He tried dribbling between his legs and got tripped up. That was basically the beginning of the end of his career.
He had been on a tear before that, fueled by a spat with either the owner or general manager if I recall correctly.
He will be forever missed.....

As great as these highlights are, so much of what he did was not captured on film. Can you imagine the highlights if every minute of every game was televised like it is today?

I have an LSU game program signed by him that I got when I was a kid. My most prized LSU possession.

He also missed a year, because freshman were not allowed to play on the varsity team back then.
