The history of LSU football over the last 15 or so years is way overblown. The ten win seasons involved a lot of luck and powder puff opponents. The SEC west is overrated anyway.
The titles, whether they be divisional, SEC or the so-called national titles are just a mechanical mathmatic estimation of excellence, based on one's record.
The national titles are just somebody's opinion and some years there are more than one.
In short, LSU was pretty much a train wreck prior to Da Coach O and even he deserves adequate time to adjust his staff correctly, get his recruits as upper classmen and institutionalize his own, inimitable program.

Sounds about right.

Only thing I'd add is that you can't evaluate O by wins and losses.

When LSU loses it's invariably because someone other than him messed up, so how is it fair to count those as losses?

You just described the 2017 schedule and yet I don't believe the team won 10 games.

So instead of pumping up confidence in O, you've resorted to trying to lower the standard by re-writing history....

This is going to be a fun season. James Carville would be proud of the spin we will see over the next 6-7 months.

Your post seems to suggest that the quantatative analysis available (stats like wins and losses) isn’t the best way to evaluate LSU’s position in the pecking order of teams. Suppose we grant you that for arguements sake, and agree to evaluate LSU on more subjective terms. Do you think teams were more or less eager to play LSU in say, 2011 (or 2013, or kinda whenever you’d like to pick) than they were last year?

Parcells said it best. You are what your record says you are. And there’s a reason for that. Records tend to reflect a really good picture of a team’s overall “worth.”

Accordingly, we ALL should have been really concerned when LSU lost to Troy last year. O should have felt the heat from that. Likewise, we should ALL have been proud of the way a Coach O lead team came back from 3 scores against auburn, and more importantly not tank the rest of the season.
