Having listened to every presser CEO has given and having sifted through everybody else's take on the matter, this is how I think the Depth Chart really plays out.

Notes:
Positions in yellow will usually remain on the field regardless of the formation.
Positions in purple may be on or off the field depending on the formation.

Even though we got our first look at an official Depth Chart today, I work from the assumption that the two-deep preview is merely snap-shot in time, publishing the least amount of information possible. After all, how frequently did we run a base 3-4 without a Nickel in the game?

Offensive Line:
• It sounds like CEO has hinted that Chasen Hines will be the starter at Left Guard, but I think they want to give him another week of rest.
• Nobody thinks Charles Turner is ready yet to step in at Center. But if he was ever going to get a few games in while maintaining his redshirt, this Saturday would be one of those games.
• Jakori Savage has moved back to the O-Line.

Wide Receivers:
• I was surprised to see that Derrick Dillon was not listed in the Slot. Perhaps this is only temporary. Maybe Dee Anderson will redeem himself after he returns in better "condition."
• However, Derrick Dillon may have been forced out of the Slot by the emergence of Trey Palmer. CEO can't stop raving about him.

Running Backs:
• Beyond CEH, your guess is as good as mine. I think most people expect the upper classmen to carry the load more during the early part of the season. Yet, I fully expect to see variety from game one. Any over/under on how many different players record a rushing attempt on Saturday?
• Supposedly, there is no longer a Full Back position... I'll believe it when I don't see it.

Defensive Backs:
• CEO said that Cordale Flott has established himself as the #3 CB.
• Todd Harris is the #3 Safety, but is considered a "starter." This looks to be the case when JaCoby Stevens moves down to the Quarters position. I assume that means Eric Monroe is the #4 Safety.
• He also mentioned that Cam Lewis has found a place as the #2 Nickel.

Inside Linebackers:
• Boy, it's good to be LSU.
• Bottom line, I think CEO has been talking up his #2s, trying to inspire this unit with competition. But it's going to be no surprises here. Michael Divinity at the Mack, Jacob Phillips at the Rover.

Outside Linebackers:
• Andre Anthony is the #3 OLB behind Chaisson and Thornton.
• I don't know where exactly Ray Parker fits in, but it doesn't look like anybody else does either.

Defensive Line:
• I don't really believe that Joseph Evans is a true NT.
• Despite what the official Depth Chart says, I still think it's going to be Rashard Lawrence at RDE and Fehoko/Logan at LDE, but Lawrence seems less than 100% right now.

Great stuff as usual. I'd like to add that it is actually spelled "Jarrell Cherry".

Thank you very much for this chart!!!

Offensive Line:

With this observation I am going strictly off the depth chart where Kardell and Bradford are both listed as 3rd team.
Now, there's a couple ways, or more, to take this. But I'm going to go with the more positive outlook. After watching Bradford and Kardell in HS last season I was really expecting both to make a push for playing time and/or starting. I know Kardell is hurt, but it doesn't appear he was pushing for a lot of playing time or starting before his injury (at least I never got an indication they would by reports). When Charles, Ingram and Deculus were freshmen they all pushed for playing time and starting positions. Hines last year did the same.
Now, some people will look at it like this: Bradford and Kardell are not as good as the aforementioned olinmen. But I don't see it like that.
The way I see it is 2 years ago LSU's oline was depleted and lacked a lot of talent. The true freshmen that came in were better than some of the olinemen LSU had. Same thing with Hines last season. But now, with several olinemen returning who started last season and the season before, the players are too good and experienced for these 2 freshmen to push for a lot of playing time and/or starting.
I am not saying by mid-season or even before that these 2 freshman won't start getting a lot of playing time and/or starting, they may indeed. But to accomplish this they will have to work a lot harder than Deuclus, Ingram, Charles or Hines did to break into the rotation.

IDK how many people will see this as a very good sign that the oline has greatly improved since last season, but that is definitely the way I see it. Had Kardell and Bradford been incoming freshmen last year or the year before I believe they would have competed for playing time and/or starting from day 1. This oline will be one of the best in recent years!!!

Interesting choice to put Ingram on the chart even though he’s not eligible to play until his court case ends.

The official depth chart lists Andre Anthony as the backup to Ray Thornton, but you put him behind Chaisson. Why’d you switch him to the opposite OLB?

I’d keep Moss as the starter. After the 2018 spring game, I was jazzed about Moss being the best blocking TE on the team. I think that quality will keep him on the field, as he’s the most complete TE.

I completely agree with you about making Fehoko and Lawrence the two DE’s, instead of listing both at the same spot as the official depth chart does. The DL is at its best when both are on the field at the same time.

Those are the composite ratings listed by 247Sports for the freshman class. Also, the little checklist icons indicate that the freshman was an early enrollee.

The scary part on defense is the way they eject players these days, you know the backups will have to play in high pressure situations. Monroe needs to be ready to go because refs seem to hate Delpit.
