This would be great news.

The Transformation Committee, a group of high-ranking college leaders charged with overhauling and modernizing NCAA governance, is considering revolutionary changes some administrators describe as “radical.” In a briefing with athletic administrators this week in Dallas, committee leaders revealed ideas to deregulate longtime NCAA bylaws and decentralize such decisions to the conferences.
Several athletic administrators and college sports insiders discussed the Transfer Committee’s concepts under the condition of anonymity. They include (1) eliminating scholarship caps on sports that offer only partial scholarships; (2) abolishing the limitation on the number of coaches per team; (3) expanding direct payments from schools to athletes; (4) reconfiguring the recruiting calendar; and (5) implementing closed periods in the NCAA transfer portal. At least the first three items will be left in the decision-making hands of individual conferences, if the concepts are approved.

This would radically change the talent distribution across division 1.

NIL is pushing this. Smaller schools and conferences will now be clamoring for any extra scholarships they can use to try and keep up with top tier schools that can use NIL to compensate for lack of money to players. Not sure how Title IX comes in but if no sports have limits then it shouldn’t matter.

No I think they would tap into the studs that are at jucos because they get to go to juco for free Vs going to a TCU on a 30% scholarship and still having to pay 50k a year

Not sure I like item #3 on their agenda. It's pretty vague, but expanding direct payments from schools to players is not going to help what's going on right now

Takes away Vandy’s advantage. Love it

2 and 3 on the agenda are unnecessary but doing away with scholarship limits in baseball should have happen a long time ago beings teams like Vanderbilt exist who have cheated the system for years

Tell me about this Vandy advantage that has them firmly outside the Top 25?

I see problems with some of this

#2 most certainly is not. The fact that baseball only has 2 paid assistants is ridiculous.

I mean in the last 7 college World Series they have won 2 titles and finished runner up twice so I wouldnt shite on them too much. That doesn’t mean they have a huge advantage but they definitely have an advantage being considered a private school and going around the scholarship rules. If everyone doesn’t have to follow the same rules it’s pretty obvious that there is some type of advantage.Just not as bad as when private high schools play public high schools

And have been runner up twice. Definitely an advantage

May actually make college baseball watchable. Would allow some HS kids considering going pro to stay and develop and become big time. No one wants to see limited talent on the field. Save college baseball/make it watchable by actually having guys who belong in the minors show out in college.
We don't need more guys in college who wouldn't even make a Low A roster.

In the big picture frame of mind of this. It could also mean an expansion of traditional club level sports like Men's Soccer, Lacrosse, and Rugby.
They can add scholarships to women's sports to get by Title IX equal scholarship rules for additional men's sports. (Assuming that's how it works.)

I thought recently more top MLB prospects were playing CBB than past decades. Bregman, Deichmann would have gone straight pro in the 90's.

I am interested to see how this plays out. What does the limit move to?
