"That's Baseball"

I despise this quote from Smoke but...
Arky got swept by Moo State... who is/was in freefall mode
9-9 puts us one game out of first place in the west
There are only 6 SEC teams in the top 25... and only one of them is anything close to a lock.
We are a young and inexperienced team. That means somedays we will look like world beaters and some days we will get blown out.
This is not football. Scholarship limits and the smaller teams mean many more teams are competitive at college baseball these days, compared to college football.
The ceiling for this team is probably 15-15 SEC play and a 2 seed in a regional.
Few teams could survive losing their #2 starter (Walker) and multiple position starters THIS YEAR, as well as everyone that left after last year.
Baseball is a game where the best teams in the pros lose 60 times in the regular season, and getting a hit 3 times out of 10 is a great player. Imagine a QB that completes 30 percent of his passes, or a basketball player that hits 30 percent of his field goals. Yet... a baseball player that gets a hit 30 percent of time time is considered a great player.
This is NOT a Les Miles situation. Certainly in a couple of years it could be. But this is a team that is rebuilding. Walker doesn't get hurt, we have three legit weekend starters. Totally different team.

But, it’s bad baseball

500 baseball in conference is not bad baseball.
They had a bad, bad weekend.

It’s nowhere near Bertman baseball

Did Smoke ever need to claim that’s baseball after an 0-4 week?

My legitimate reaction to reading this. Well put, baw.

I wonder if in 20 years... the Bama fans will say "It's nowhere near Saban football"
If anything... baseball during Bertman's time was a time when maybe 15 teams had legit shots at being great programs.
Baseball in the mid 90s is similar to football today.
Plus, you know, Bertman being the best, or the top 2-3, of the best coaches of all time.

We haven’t played any of the great teams.
11-0 Friday.
Down 7-0 Saturday.
Gave up 8 straight to blow a 6 run lead on Sunday.
That’s not bad baseball. Even Tennessee would say that’s embarrassing baseball.

The Tennessee team that took 2/3 from A&M this weekend after being swept by us?

ARKY - who let's be honest - is a better team than us this year - got swept by Moo State. Moo State is a WORSE team than South Carolina.
We got our butts kicked this weekend. This does not mean fire the coach. This means we got our butts kicked this weekend.

We lost the three games by a combined score of 31-11.
By the end of the game on Sunday, which we lost 10-2, you could hear fans sitting around us saying Bertman's time was past. It was time to make a change. The game had passed him by.
That was the 2000 season. As I recall, we ended up doing pretty well that year......

Weird, because the way this message board acts... Bertman never lose a game.

Probably my favorite line from the entire series.

This board probably thinks the Florida State coach is worthless and knows nothing about baseball just because he hasn’t won the big one.

There’s also a macro vs micro problem. Skip’s career we won 5 titles and made 11CWS. No one cares we got sweep by Houston or lost some midweek game to UNO or get destroyed by Alabama 28-2 because we know the final result. There weren’t message boards back then (thank god) but I guarantee there was someone fretting over minutiae
