How are they associated with this issue simply by marching in a Mardi Gras parade?
The queen of Zulu is an LSU student I believe. I’m sure the LSU band marching has at least something to do with that.

They are not associated with this issue by "simply marching in a Mardi Gras parade." They ARE associated with this issue by marching in THIS parade. The LSU band HAS a choice, and they chose to participate with a krewe that "requires" its members to dress in "blackface."

TGBFTL marching in Zulu would be a great decision and appreciated by all. The black face tradition of Zulu is also appreciated and respected by all. Hail to Zulu and TGBFTL!

Well, it isn't a mostly white krewe doing it. I live in New Orleans, a city with more black people than 99% of American cities, and they created the parade and love it in overwhelming numbers.

This is a BS response. Blackface is offensive and wrong. If you like it, that is your choice since you (and you alone) make your choices. If others like it, that is their personal choice. The LSU Band represents the university and I am appalled at this decision.

The LSU Band and those performing obviously are not offended. It is their personal choice to perform. Blackface is offensive and wrong to you and that is your personal choice to feel that way. You don't represent the whole university.

Exactly. It comes down to intent. There are offensive ways to do things that mock or ridicule others and there are non-offensive ways that celebrate or honor people.

I had drinks with a long time black Zulu member this past weekend and I asked him about the controversy. He laughed and said there is no controversy. Said some white people from out of town are trying to hijack their tradition to advance their stupid cause

People of color across the country are calling this out for what it is....racism. Just because a black person thinks it is OK, that does not make it so. As far as "their tradition," slavery was also a tradition, so was blacks sitting in the rear of the bus, segregation, etc. Traditions that are wrong must go.
