Texas fans REALLY think the 2005 team was best ever

Their resume sucks compared to LSU 19
LSU 15 wins vs
Texas with 13
LSU 7 top 10 wins vs
Texas w 2
Not even an argument
Can someone explain to me why this team is considered one of the best ever! I just don’t see it! They were a big underdog in the championship game

Fans are dumb for their own team.
I'll agree that was probably the best college game ever, but not best team.

It’s one of the best, if not the best, championship games in college football history, between two powerhouse programs with Heisman finalists on each side.
With that said, they’re far from being the undisputed, greatest college football team of all-time.

Vince Young was basically unstoppable. They were a great team, but not the greatest.

Burrow >>> Vince Young

Can’t compare win totals. But top to bottom these teams aren’t close. Vince def good enough to keep it close tho.

They won the greatest title game ever against a juggernaut. Plus they had an unstoppable force at QB and a lot of pros, sound familiar? Can’t really blame them.

Texans fans think they’re gonna walk into Tiger Stadium win 42-3, shut Chase down, Ehlinger throws for 500 yards and they go 15-0 and they’re back.

The 2006 Rose Bowl was the greatest championship game of all time.
That being said, the 2005-2006 Longhorns resume doesn’t come remotely close to what LSU accomplished last season.

A couple of those Clemson Bama games were legitimately great
Texas fans can thank Reggie Bush for gifting them the game with that lateral. They were about to run Texas off the field before that play.

USC was being hyped as the best ever before the game. I remember espn.com would have a daily poll in those days. It was always ‘who would win? USC v ‘95 Nebraska’ and shite like that.
Texas knocked them off and deserves that recognition. Vince played a way that we have rarely seen. I feel comfortable saying Burrow matched or exceeded VY’s big game ability. I guess Tebow fits the conversation too.
UT was great. Loaded with NFL talent, and piled up the numbers.
I think 2019 LSU wins, but it wouldn’t be a blowout or anything.
Lastly, who cares what UT fans think? Let them enjoy reminiscing, and I’ll enjoy the win our Tigers took in Austin last year leading up to epicness.

04 USC and 01 Miami were the best ever.

If Texas played 15 games that year, they would have won 15.
That is a bad “resume” stone

I love LSU, and the 2019 season was definitely one for the ages, but I'm not sure we could have beaten that 2001 Miami team. That was one helluva team. Just insanely talented.
The Texas team isn't even in the top 5 all-time.

Mediocre QB at Miami in '01. LSU has plenty of talent that will be in the NFL as well.

I'm sure you were thinking we wouldn't beat Clemson either

Frankly, that's what makes it all the more remarkable in hindsight. Now, one could win with defense, for sure, back then (hell, we did just 2 years later).
The big "three" for at least "modern" era football teams are Nebraska (1995), Miami (2001) and LSU (2019) - I can't imagine any other team crowding into that conversation. Any other real candidate is going to be back in the 1970s.
Now - don't get me wrong, I'm not dismissing what Nebraska accomplished - they absolutely crushed a Florida team, 62-24, that rolled up the SEC like it wasn't even there (Highlights - 63-7 @USCe, 62-37 over #8 ranked Tennessee in the Swamp, 34-3 over #23 Arky in Atlanta). The Huskers also had impressive wins over ranked K-State, Colorado and Kansas during their season.
Miami 2001's reputation is bolstered by all the high profile pros that had great success. Just as an example, their top 4 RBs all started in the NFL. 38 players drafted, dozens of combined pro bowl selections.
But neither Nebraska nor Miami accomplished what LSU did in terms of quality wins. Frankly, I don't think anyone has, to date. We could have put 100 on Oklahoma - the #4 team in the country. :letthatsinkin:
