They talk about how they went to A&M the same way Andy always talks about how he went to Cornell. They just find ways to work it into conversations. Hilarious.

“I went to A&M. Ever heard of it?”

which is funny because Cornell is the "shittiest" Ivy League school and other Ivy grads look down on them

They also think they are a Military School. I guarantee you that most people think the Cadets have some military obligations but they don’t. If fact only about 30-35 percent actually go on into any branch of Military Service.

They can march around for 4 years and then walk away unless they choose to go into the Military after they graduate.

It’s funny because 90% of people who aren’t college football fans and don’t interact with them on message boards would have no idea if it’s a better or worse school than UF, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, etc. No one who went to a legitimately good college like Stanford, Harvard, etc. gives a shite about some agricultural and mechanical college in Texas. I get that their cult repeats it until they believe it but A&M isn’t opening doors to anyone who didn’t also go to A&M, and I’d argue that a lot of grads from schools in Texas and the SEC would be significantly less likely to hire one of them. Kinda cancels out that “”“great education”””

This… and aggie, i.e. top administrators, love this service academy branding. The only thing the aggie corp has been for last half decade is the largest fraternity of douchebags anywhere. I would be very surprised if 30% go on to armed service branches

The more you learn about this school and it’s traditions, is that they really are a weird group of people. Not like Texan pride weird but more like their cheer folks weird.

I don’t care for them much. Having said that. Their alums have been very successful. TAM has far surpassed us in general endowment to the university. They turn out far more tech related startups than we do. And create far more jobs for the TX economy.

We could learn from that… but we won’t.

According to US News list of Best Colleges in the world A&M is #140. By comparison:

Michigan is 19
Texas is 43
Florida is 99
Virginia is 110
LSU is 425
Alabama is 470

I always thought that distinction went to Brown. I mean that seriously btw as I'm not trying to make a "shittiest" joke.

Is that a pretty high percentage based on typical student enrollment numbers?

It's very much cult like. I worked with a bunch of Aggies. Majority are all in on school pride. If you want to mess with them, just give them a little "whoop" and talk about how half their "war hymn" is dedicated to UT whom they ran away from.

UT Austin is consistently ranked much higher and harder to get into by a mile.

Not that most of that matters in the real world anyway. I chose UT for grad school mostly for the networking opportunity.
