That stat is a bit inaccurate, because a lot of people who "enter" the portal were in academic or disciplinary trouble at their previous school and had no choice but to leave.
In past years, those players would've just been kicked off the team, but now they "enter" the portal to save face.
Also, many could have a home immediately, but they think they are better than they are so they wait around for a better offer and get left holding the bag.
But your point stands. Many of them make horrible decisions.
