One thing that often gets overlooked in recruiting wars is what teams are spending on their recruiting. LSU came in at #9 most spent in FY18. While there are a few exceptions, there's an obvious correlation between the amounts schools spend on recruiting and class rankings.

IE- Georgia’s $2.6 million spent in 2017-18 ranked first, and that spending yielded the #1 recruiting class in '18. They spent more than double what LSU spent. Bama spent a little less than double what LSU spent.

If LSU wants to compete, it needs to narrow the spending gap. I fully expect Woodward to up the ante and increase spending on recruiting (A&M came in at #5 while he was there). Gotta pay to play.

Good stuff. Thanks.

Also in that article, LSU ranks 20th in the football recruiting budget ratio to overall sports recruiting budget. In other words, Coach Will Wade going all in, as if we had any doubt.

We need to pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers in the SEC.

Of course not. Bama would have to include a line item for Dodge Chargers.

Does Kansas football even generate $1.1 million a year in revenue?

Kansas basketball does. I'm guessing they're getting subsidized.

Only had 17 open scholarships available (and some of those committed in '17). Likely a much higher budget in '19.

From 2017:

An American City Business Journals study of 2017 revenues and expenses for 885 of the nation's college football programs reveal that Kansas made profits just shy of $30 million.

KU had revenue of $33,144,217 and expenses of $3,153,937

Our stipend is garbage also. The stipend being several extra thousand a semester elsewhere is a deal breaker for some recruits.

Ohio State didn’t have to and came in at a 2nd ranked class with 20th most spending

Is that something Woodward could help with?

That was the second ranked class in '18 (not '19). This data doesn't show how much Ohio State spent recruiting the '18 class. That spending would show up in FY17 dats.

One thing to remember: even though we are expanding our recruiting recently, we have a lot of top players near us, which could cut down on travel, etc.. in comparison to a lot of schools.
