If GG is correct, here are the three finalists...
Cliff Godwin, 43 yrs old, East Carolina Head Coach
Link Jarrett, 49 yrs old, Notre Dame Head Coach
Jay Johnson, 44 yrs old, Arizona Head Coach
Cliff Godwin, ECU
04-05: Vanderbilt (Director of Baseball Ops)
05-06: Notre Dame (Asst under CPM)
06-08: LSU (Asst under CPM)
09-11: UCF (Asst)
11-14: Ole Miss (Asst)
15-Present: East Carolina (HC)
Cliff was with CPM when LSU had that amazing winning streak and trip to Omaha in 2008. He recruited big time when he went to UCF and was able to help them get into the tourney. He was also coaching at Ole Miss when they got to their first CWS appearance in 30 years.
Cliff Godwin's East Carolina Record
2015: 40-22, 15-9 (2nd in AAC, NCAA Regional)
2016: 38-23-1, 15-8-1 (2nd in AAC, NCAA Super Regional)
2017: 32-28, 7-17 (8th in AAC)
2018: 44-18, 14-10 (4th in AAC, NCAA Regional)
2019: 47-18, 20-4 (1st in AAC, NCAA Super Regional)
2021: 44-17, 20-8 (1st in AAC, NCAA Super Regional)
Link Jarrett, Notre Dame
04-05: Mercer (Recruiting Coordinator)
06-09: East Carolina (Recruiting Coordinator)
10-12: Auburn (Asst)
13-19: UNC Greensboro (HC)
20-Present: Notre Dame (HC)
His ability to recruit is what has made him such a hot commodity today. He flipped Mercer around in two years than left for ECU where he got them to three NCAA tournament appearances in four years. He was even named C-USA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009. He went to Auburn where he once again won the Assistant Coach of the Year award after spending three years there and helping them get to Tournaments.
His biggest checkmark is his ability to score runs. Before becoming a Head Coach, he helped his offense's lead their conference in 36 hitting categories over nine years.

Jay Johnson, Arizona
06-13: San Diego (Asst)
14-15: Nevada (HC)
16-Present: Arizona (HC)
While Jay was the assistant at San Diego, they won 3 WCC titles and made the NCAA tournament four different times. At Nevada, he won them their first ever Mountain West title and had them ranked in the Top 25 in 2015 after going 41-14, the second best record in school history. When he got to Arizona, he got them to Omaha and lost Coastal Carolina in the Championship. In his six years at Arizona, he got them to Omaha twice.

You sold me on Godwin. Let’s be done with it

I’d go with Godwin if those were my choices

Damn what happened in Godwin’s third year?

People are so weary of trying to follow rumors and compare coaches, Woodward can throw a dart at a board full of names and the reaction will be 50/50.

I don’t think those are the finalists

They better not be. All due respect to Godwin and Johnson, who appear to be good candidates, if that’s legitimately our final 3 then we screwed up.
Jarrett has no business being on a “final 3” for LSU.

Anybody who wants Johnson is going on recency bias.
That dude was the very definition of mediocre until THIS season.

What about that first season?

I'm curious why did Godwin leave LSU to be an asst at UCF and then Ole Miss.
I understand leaving for a HC job...
So what gives? Why did he leave?

None of these guys blow me away. I’d almost rather Bianco than any of these 3. Very well likely won’t be any of these guys. Woodward is keeping us guessing.

I don’t care just break tn bank account and their spirit

Look deeper people.
Godwin was the hitting coach for LSU. LSUs offense put it in gear and that carried over to 2009. The ONLY championship CPM has was largely due to his recruiting and coaching up people like DJ. When he went to OM, Bianco made his ONLY CWS appearance.

quote:it is possible that CPM didn’t like the fact that his assistant was respected more than him. Rumors were from players from that time that Godwin recruited a lot of them and was the hitting coach when LSU tore it up with those teams. He was largely responsible for the 2008 run and not CPM. Look at the BA from 2008 and how they made that run.
So what gives? Why did he leave?

I’ll tell you what I like about Godwin: he’s been here before on a championship team and he knows what we expect. We don’t play around here. We compete for championships every year. Period. If you can’t handle that heat, you need to stay in whatever backwater you came from.
Godwin understands LSU is bigtime, and we need to reclaim our damn throne.
