I been keeping up with all of the practice reports and having heard much about Provens. I was wondering can someone give an update on how he is doing in camp.
I understand he is freshman and others are ahead on the depth chart, but he has great size for a rb 6'2 and 198 lbs.
Do you think he redshirts this year or will he be in the rotation ... thanks

Should redshirt. I think he can be a contributor down the road.

Not ideal size

A lot lighter than you’d like at that height.

I think he’ll get to 210 by next year. His speed is a huge factor, so he needs to make sure to keep that up.

I said ideal size because he should be able to put on some good weight without hurting his speed. Plus he basically 200 pounds not bad for a rb

A lot of spread teams prefer smaller, quicker, faster backs to play all but short-yardage and goal line snaps.

You know how when you see a stand out upperclassman running back for a lesser prominent school/program that ends up being talked about for awards and maybe even the heisman by the time they are a senior, but you don’t necessarily recall hearing much about them from following recruiting? That’s Tae Provens, potentially.

Disagree. We don’t have enough true depth to redshirt him. We will use him this year. He looked great in the spring game and will contribute this year.

Agree, if he’s faster than CEH, he will get some chances. If he can block, he’ll get plenty of playing time.

He might, but I really thought the brief glimpse we got of him in the spring game was exciting. But maybe I'm grasping?

Even if he eventually takes a redshirt, feels like he'll play vs. the lesser OOC opponents to get some reps.

He brings an element that we don't have a ton of out the backfield

Word is Curry will be the guy here. Working him in slowly against "lesser" opponents. Unless he is a special teams hawk, Provens needs to redshirt. It he can get to 215+ he will be a special back. I think even with that weight he won't lose speed.

Concensus is he will redshirt but he is our fastest RB. I believe he had our lingest runs from scrimmage in the Spring.
With the new redshirt rules he may get his toe in the water this year

This will Sound negative but this is why you recruit big time Guice/LF/ cam akers types. When they step on campus they are ready to contribute. O seems to be getting guys that are projects and may contribute but it wont be as a freshman. Hoping in this recruiting class they can close with a few instant impact guys at RB.

I think 6'2 is a stretch. I thought this guy was barely 5'11. Not that it matters, just 6'2 seems tall from what i remember.

God LSU fans are obsessed with every running back being 220+ lbs. Provens looks fine, he doesn't look too small to play nor is he expected to be a workhouse RB.

Everyone's favorite why didn't we recruit him sooner obsession Travis Etienne is 200 lbs.

I just love how people throw out numbers like they know what they're talking about. He's got a RBs build already. He's going to play and may be one of the better RB on the team at some point in certain situations. He's a perfect RPO type of back.

His weight and height have zip to do with anything lol. LSU doesn't have to have an every down back and won't this year. That's really when the weight factors in and even then it doesn't matter at all in some cases. He's got RBs body, is patient, sees the field and is very quick. Could be very valuable to LSU in the run game this year.
