It would have to be Mett. Any of the others could at least have made a game of it, and with a few breaks maybe win. JJ should have ridden the bench. Along with CLM’s game plan.

2013:mett, 2012 mett had to stay in a phone booth on the sidelines for the first half the season, 2013 mett threw for 3000 yds.

Y.A. Title could have been the qb that game and LSU would have still lost the game. The O line was completely dominated in that game......been a recurring theme ever since.

I would have thrown in all of them until I found one that worked. JJ wasn't going to beat anyone in that game.

Les refusing to change anything was downright criminal.

ETA: Should add Russell Shepard to the list.

Nothing stupid bout that statement. We probably lose in Bama if JJ doesn't come in and we probably never see the NCG if we lose that game cause LSU is not Bama/Nick.

I admire JL and his comeback season of 2011 as much as anyone, but the guy, for whatever the reason, played horrible against Bama 95% of his career.

The only QBs I can think of recently, 4-5 yrs, who have won vs. Bama have been those able to extent plays or hurt them by running.

We can piss on JJ all we want, but the guy was tuff and is the only LSU QB to have directed a LSU win over Bama in almost a decade.

LSU DID NOT LOSE THAT GAME BECAUSE OF QB PLAY. Seriously how hard is that to comprehend? It didn’t help but overall offensive gameplan and bad o line play is why LSU lost that game.

Crazy how some qb's get the benefit of the doubt when bad offensive line play and bad offensive play calling are clearly evident in some games. The fact Les and company came into that game with the same game plan to beat BAMA the second go around was borderline criminal.

Iowa State doesn't beat Okie State, this is irrelevant. If the "other guy'' doesn't get caught with someone's daughter going to a movie after he was told she was off limits, he doesn't get stripped of his starting position. So sad. So sad. So sad. We haven't been the same since. This changes next weekend. :geauxtigers:

With that same offensive game plan? No, qb on that list, playing at there best would have won. That game fell on the coaches, not the players.

Since we’re using time machines, why is 2013 Mett off limits? Or 01 Ro? 03 Mauck, 06 JRock? (07 Flynn is covered on the Recruitig board)

I'd say he had another defective and dumb game plan and stuck to it like a mule, even when it was obviously blown to smithereens while the game might still have been salvageable. Then to compound the stupid - CLM sticking stubbornly with "JJ-deer in the headlights" as QB for that whole game, when both Lee and Mett were available on the bench defies all logic. It was time to pull out all stops and he just nibbled field grass and stared. From that point on, I was done thinking he was the right coach for LSU. His time had passed.

And I believe people at major schools who might be in the market for a new HC can see the deficiencies, and the talent he squandered (because it's playing in the NFL now), and see what the truly faithful but misguided seem to miss - that CLM is a great guy, a good recruiter, but inept in the crunch. Since about 2008, with the exception of 2011 (apart from the 1/9 NC debacle). Annual underachievement with the talent he had recruited/playing on the team, ever since.

Thus no new HC job offers since leaving the Tigers.
