We lost Surtain at the last minute

We should hold on to Stingley

I don't think you can definitely state one is better than the other.

According to Shea Dixon and a few others who follow recruiting closely Stingley is a better player than Surtain. His measurables are almost identical to Patrick Peterson coming out of high school.

Non-LSU fans will probably think we're just sour and saying that Stingley is better because we lost Surtain but from everything I've read and heard Stingley is the better player.

Would have liked to have both but if I had to pick I'm glad we got Stingley. Just wish he could be on this year's team

ETA: Not taking anything away from Surtain. He will be a very good player - but all accounts say Stingley is a better player (not sure how wide the margin is)

They both grade out very similar.

I will say that Surtain payed for a major High School and went against some studs. Stingley has dominated elite competition in the camp circuit. It’s a coin flip at this point.

I wish we could have landed both....

I was thinking this as well. Surtain played much better competition in high school. Dunham is only 2A (I think?) so Stingley is primarily going against scrubs in his regular high school games. But his skills translate to going against the best of the best. As you said - his film in these elite camps and 7 on 7 drills is insane. I'd imagine it's weird for him. Think of the kids he plays against in his Friday night games vs. the kids at these camps.

Both 5 stars but Stingley is rated the top player in the class by at least 1 service. I don’t think Surtain ever got that much praise.

Kevin Toliver was ranked number one his junior summer as well.

Stingley is clearly the best DB in the country and will be a top 10 ranked kid, but there’s still a ways to go in the evaluation of this class.

Like I said- coin flip at this point but when I watch both of them I see:

Surtain- Similiar to Richard Sherman in that he is very, very long. Extremely polished and physically gifted.

Stingley- Patrick Peterson clone. Watch- I bet his opening numbers are very similar to Pat’a combine. Stingley is a freak athlete. Great size a little more compact than Surtain and better ball skills.

Pick your poison at this point. Really wish we would have landed both.

Everything I've read has said stingley is a better athlete and all around football player but surtain is the pure better corner. Stingley can impact the game 12 different ways, surtain just has the 1 but it's a good one.

I’ve never once read that Surtain is the better pure corner. This is exactly where stingley excels.

I watched Chad Jones play 1A football at Southern Lab and you can tell that his talents translated to the next level even tho he probably wasn’t facing the stiffest competition.

I understand the small school thing but according to his coach he got thrown at 19 times last year and stingley came away with 11 int's, 6 pass breakups and 2 caught balls and that was when they were in prevent. Small schools or not, that shows me he hss great instincts and ball skills. He has similar size and body type as PP when he came to LSU. We'll see, if he stays committed and signs, we will see if playing against inferior talent hurts him or not (speed and strengthwise), although they say he runs a 4.3-40. From what I've read and seen of him, I believe in him small school or not.
