Sullivan’s “incomplete” catch

What am I missing here?
- Completed catch, no bobble
- makes two steps towards sideline
- becomes engaged in a tackle by Ark DB
- Ark DB tackles him
- Ball pops out when his back hits the ground

have to control the catch "through the ground" in college

Correct. But that doesn’t apply after you take two steps without contact.

Right?
I understand controlling the ball to the ground, but Sullivan had it and took a few steps. How long do you have to have it?

He has no chance of catching that ball when ruling is out of Birmingham no doubt

Not after you establish possession, which he did

Just like the NFL the NCAA has no idea on what a catch is or isn’t

Wouldn’t the two steps towards the sideline establish possession and preclude the fumble caused by the ground?

Thought it was Definently a catch but knew they wouldn't overturn!!

The wording of the catch rule is retarded and needs to be changed

You are missing the same thing everyone else is missing.
Bad rules confuse. If you are running the ball, break the plane of goal line, TD, even if you fumble a millisecond later. If you catch a ball in the end zone, fall to ground, having complete control, then ball comes loose, no TD.
How can that be, basically same thing, control of ball in EZ, but, rules officials have made the refs have a Doctarate degree to call the game correctly.
Go figure!

The worst part was they looked at it for about 10 seconds.

It was like the Jacob Hester non-catch in that crooked 2006 Auburn game. Took 2 steps with the ball first.

The way the rule is written is a bit confusing

It was the right call. He caught it, got it immediately and went to the ground. He hit the groud and ball came out

No you don't, not when its in the middle of the field and the WR catches it, makes 2 steps with ball secure then makes a 3rd step gets tackled, his knee goes down first, then his elbow, arse and back hit then the DB pulls the ball out after all that? bullshite.
Those through the ground deals are on a close or diving catch in the middle of the field or close to the out of bounds.
That was a catch.
In your analogy- if a WR catches the ball and takes 4, 5, 6 steps and the same shite happens what say you then?

no he didin't . He caught the ball, ran with it, got tackled, hit the ground and fumbled with the ground causing the fumble.

-Tom Ritter is running the instant replay booth in Birmingham.
Not saying we were cheated. SEC replay booth is incompetent.
