re: Stingley excited by Daronte Jones
But the rant told me he wasn't playing next year

ETA: the rant is very stupid.

ETA 2: What a quote
quote:

"Derek called me immediately after and was like 'Dad, Pelini never called me, Aranda never called me.' They'd talk to me yeah but not have personal relationships like coach [Corey] Raymond. It just shows he's relating to these kids. I'm pretty sure Derek's going to want to run through a wall for him."

Woof Aranda talks about the “head nodders” but doesn’t call these kids?

Smart guy but he will need to up his personal relationships big time or go pro.

Dave wasn't there to coddle you. Learn the plays and make the plays move on.

The most important thing to have when dealing with talented kids is developing trust. Sounds like we got that part covered.

Not really considering Aranda was actually a good DC and won a national title that season

It's not about coddling. It's a out showing that you give a damn about the players outside of what they can do for you on the football field. Outside of the lines, these guys deal with so much more personally and emotionally. Are football coaches hired to coach? Yes. But they are also there to mentor and help develop them to become better people on and off the field. Lead by example. Players want to know that they can trust their coaches and willing to understand them outside of the locker room and really mean the bull shite they said while on the recruiting trail. You dont know what many of these guys have to go through everything day but all most of you really care about is whether they're gonna play or not. I think it's good that Jones is reaching out to everyone and building that line of communication. If he goes to them now, they will come to him for anything.

To be fair Aranda was already on staff and I would imagine already knew Stingley through recruiting not sure why he would need to cal him.

re: Stingley excited by Daronte Jones
If Stingley and Ricks come back healthy and focused and Sage is "as advertised" the DBs are going to be crazy good because the DL is set up for a great season and should be forcing QBs get rid of the ball early.

The LB group is the biggest question. If they can at least play average to above the D is going to be nasty.

It blows my mind that these guys are being paid 7 figures a year to manage and teach a group of players yet apparently never bother to reach out to said players?

Very few are good enough to have a stable relationship like this with players and succeed. Aranda knew how good he was and his players did too.

If Jones fails, the narrative will be, "Jones spent too much time coddling players and not enough time on scouting opponents!"

There's a HC that wins titles all the time and he doesn't

I's an ego thing. It seems that Coach O is looking for a low-ego staff. While I find it refreshing, we will see if it is effective.

I would expect position coaches to have more time to build personal bridges than coordinators so I wouldn't put too much stock into what Stingley said. Daronte may have done this as an incoming coach and that's great, but as he starts building schemes, gameplans and takes on all the DC responsibilities he's likely going to have less time for the relationship aspect. That being said, being able to relate to your players and make that connection is valuable to get them to buy in to what you are teaching.
