Anyone know the status of the statue of Pete Maravich?

They announced it 2 years ago...

They're still waiting for him to graduate first.

Please don't misinterpret my question as opposition to Pete's or other statues.

What would be the criteria going forward to honor athletes with a statue?

Heisman winner for football?
Naismith winner for basketball?
Dick Howser winner for baseball?
Hobey Baker winner for hockey (maybe not)?
Don't have time to look up the appropriate for women's sports, but include them.
1st Round draft pick?
NCAA Player of the Year?
Based just on college career?
Based just on Pro Career?
Both College and Pro?
Coach with multiple (how many) National Championships

I think the player of the year awards in the respective sports is a very good benchmark for a statue. As is National championship coaches (not necessarily coach of the year).

Otherwise I think you look at careers (college and pro) and decide if someone represented LSU well and has that "legend" type persona. Controversial people would be Chris Jackson for basketball, Tyrann Mathieu in football, Patrick Peterson and Leonard Fournette could be considered, but I think you have to pay attention to the pro careers and how much they give back to LSU after leaving. IMO, In this day with the top players leaving before graduation, you gotta consider some of the post LSU activity on and off the field.

I don't think it's that set in stone

I think every situation is unique. I hope they use their best judgement.

They should put a statue of Brian Wilson wearing the LSU Football uni on Gameday.

I don't know, but I would think if you can have a stadium named after you, you probably qualify for a statue

Shaq and Pettit are the only current statues we have. Those that have been approved but not yet built are Maravich, Bertman, and Cannon. So if you want to use those as a guide, winning national player of the year (Shaq, Maravich, Cannon) or being the best coach of a generation (Skip) is probably a good starting point, although there is no specified criteria like there is for HOF and/or jersey retirement. Pettit was a 2 time consensus AA but I'm sure they also looked at his NBA career where he was ROY, 2 time NBA MVP and All NBA 11 straight years.

I think other candidates for statues, if there are more in the future, should be Ben McDonald, Todd Walker, Tommy Casonova, Kevin Faulk, and Patrick Peterson

That day was the most respected LSU Football has ever been. We were #1 over an undefeated Alabama AND ESPN picked their host with LSU ties over a home Alabama team. I still can't believe they picked an LSU celebrity for their guest over an Alabama one in Tuscaloosa.

That was the zenith of LSU football. That morning on ESPN and that night on CBS.

100% agree. It makes me a combination of upset/angry/disappointed just to think about. Really all you can do is shake your head.

I can't see how anyone could be against Pete getting a statue.

How about the greatest college basketball player of all time who holds scoring records that will never be broken?
