I don't see anymore talent at LSU than I see at 8 or 9 other SEC teams and a lot less than 3 or 4 others.

LSU finished 6th in SEC in batting average with .272 average.

LSU finished 11th in the SEC in team ERA with a 4.64 ERA.

My opinion is that Garza will need to hit early and often. The lineup will vary for the first month or so as always and he will get a shot at catcher. I’d think he can get time at first base as well if he’s hitting so well that you just need his bat in there.

If we are talking who’s the better catcher. Torres and it’s not even close. He’s a high level defensive catcher. His bat will be solid and should improve with at bats, but defensively he would have been our best option this season.

I don’t think you can sacrifice defense at the catching position. Passed balls and stolen bases will absolutely kill a team. Gotta be strong there. Torres is that guy.

LSU had 2-3 obvious holes in the lineup before Garza was healthy and ready to go and never really had the bodies to replace those bats. You also had your best prep bat of the class Willis sidelined for portions of the year with his shoulder injury that never let him fully get going.

Cabrera’s going to need to be the leader and workhorse next year there’s no question about it.

LSU is sending both DiGiacomo and Dugas to the Cape Cod this summer and is doing so because they are preparing for both to become full time starters next season.

Beloso had one of the more consistent freshman campaign’s in awhile and will only become a more patient hitter.

The incoming position players in this class was almost a perfect get, they did lose Cairo unexpectedly however kept both Hampton and Doughty. Those are two of the top six ranked high school position players in the entire country to come to school. You throw in Travinksi who turned down close to 750k this spring and will be a major power threat in LSU’s lineup for years to come. You’ve got Torres who is a great defender that may allow him to play while the bat comes around.

I really do think Mainieri is eyeballing a couple of JUCO infielders and we’ll know in the coming weeks which may fill that last spot.

The lineup in general next year may have a Smoke Laval feel to it. Much more station to station baseball with the added power sprinkled in with 2-3 guys that will be the speedsters.

Yea they still get paid by the TAF & other small things I believe but a proven hitting coach isn't coming here to take that salary

Travinski is also a catcher as is Willis. I think we went all “TE” on that position in baseball.

Fair but I’d really like to hear what you think Josh. I mean it was depressing most of the year. Then we start to look like LSU and we get snake bit with our game 1 starter. After that we look like a bunch of clowns on the bases when we actually had a chance to pull out a super regional win.

doesnt mean I’m saying blow it up but I need some hope lol

Using only batting average isnt a good measure. Id imagine batting average across baseball is down now as teams shift to more of the mlb model of more homers and less singles

I agree that batting average on its own is not good enough.

But, I haven't seen anything out of LSU that makes me think they are moving to a "more homers" approach. So, batting average is fair to compare to past teams, IMO.
