I will man up and apologize for making the assumption- that was awful but that as bad as it was in not a reflection on the town- the staff overseeing your try outs should have known better/ how hard is it to get cups?
Apology accepted.

It's a much more gay friendly town now. You should give it another chance.

I went once. The town was about what I expected. "Tailgating" was better than I expected. However, I will NEVER go back. The cowbells are the dumbest and worst thing ever.

Dude, girls are all over soccer players. When you finally get one you can ask her what she thinks of them.

Agree with OP. We were very close to sleeping in the car in 1983. Starkville was about the size of Livonia back then. Now I'd put it in the Thibodaux category. Many more restaurants and hotels. Their old downtown area is pretty cool too.

I think this is what takes a lot of people by surprise. The tailgating is way more condensed than at LSU which provides a more universal experience. It's also cool tailgating hundreds of feet from your entrance and being able to look into the stadium at the jumbotron that is usually playing college gameday or games before kickoff.

Went in 2015 and had a good time. It’s all in what you make it, some people just suck at having a good time. As long as there is alcohol I’m gonna make the best out of anywhere I go

You're not going there to live a-hole....just to visit for a game. The experience is what you make of it

You're talking to someone who had to go there multiple times throughout the year not during football season. So, I likely have a way better feel for the town than you since I have family that lives there. Starkville is shitty. Any town with a decent football program will have a decent social experience on any given Saturday during the football season. Try going there when football season is over and you'll agree too that Starkville is a shithole!

A lot of people in this thread saying Starkville is a shithole and there is nothing to do, yet no one can seem to give examples.

What would be an example of nothing?

Hammond is better than Starkville, but that ain't saying much. I grew up there and one of the reasons why I don't live there anymore.

hose going to the game will be surprised at Starkvegas
That is one place I will never travel to for a football game. Not only are the cowbells obnoxious but they are also illegal. All other artificial noisemakers are not allowed. The fact that MSU and Texas believe that they are somehow grandfathered in to be able to use them doesn't make it any less obnoxious and MSU takes it to a whole other level. Why subject myself to a miserable experience?

FTR, same goes for me with the Vandy whistlers.

Have a highschool senior who has visited Starkville along with Durham, Clemson, Houston, Nashville, Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Tallahassee, Athens, Atlanta, Chapel Hill, Charlottesville and probably a few I’ve missed....

Starkville is a distant LAST on that list. DISTANT.

Probably never play soccer-I did division 3 at Belhaven College....you have to be in shape and be able to take some hits....without pads. I'm guessing this person may not have the tools...And yes, girls go for soccer players too!

I had an associate later in life who sent his kid there on account of the “Golf & Leisure” (or somn such as that) major program MS offered at the time. Which basically was supposed to arm a student with a degree that’d allow him/her to basically be a “Golf/Country Club Pro” to run/manage a Country Club (or similar) facility (the kid was a very good golfer). MS was one of the 1st colleges to offer such a program. He stayed 1 semester and bolted for greener pastures.

I was in that program and it was and still is a very good program...it's call the Professional Golf Management Program and it's in conjunction with the PGA of America. Not saying your friend's son bolted after one semester because of this-but many realize it's much more than playing golf and taking basket weaving courses. You are earning a Marketing degree in addition to taking Botany, Turf Grass management, learning about pesticides and fertilizers along with 20 hours of co-op at golf courses under the supervision of a PGA pridessional...Many fail, change majors, or bolt!!
