Spring Position Battles

May have been discussed before, but I would like to share my insight and opinion.
QB- Cam said it was going to be an open competition, and you can tab Mettsiah as the starter...but I dont know how much of a shot he will give Rivers working with his brother and all in San Diego. I predict that Rivers will take this chance and run with it to become a very solid number 2...something we have not had since 2007.
others to watch are the two freshmen...Rettig and Jennings...both will probably redshirt..but having a spring under their belts will make it tough not to give them a look against early foes. If options 1 and 2 go down, I think Jennings will get the nod.
RB- Is Blue participating in Spring? If so, he will probably work with the ones. I think you will see McGee emerge as a better player and he will probably give the defense fits. Jeremy Hill and Hilliard will have spirited competition.
WR- looking for that big WR...who is it going to be? We know Jarvis and Odell have two spots locked up but they could be better utilized as slot-type WRs IMO. We need someone to step up and give us a taller option. Or do we? James Wright has been solid.
TE- I look for the new guy Stokes to make some headway and push Dillon Gordon and Dickson. But I think our TE1 is Gordon (because of blocking) and Dickson can play the H-Back or backside TE in heavy sets to keep the Defense accountable.
Center- It looks like Elliot Porter has this job locked up. Who can challenge him?
RG- Trai Turner was quite the surprise last season. I look for him to only get better. What a gem of a recruit.
Defense:
MLB- Barrow seems to be the one, but do Tajh Jones or Kwon Alexander have the size to move inside. I think Kwon and Jones will stay outside. Jones did not impress me with his one appearance in the Chick-fil-A bowl...but its safe to say he was rusty.
OLB- This will be an interesting triad of Kwon, Jones, and Debo Jones. I think Debo will make leaps and bounds this Spring and really push for a starting spot.
Safety- Micah Eugene or Ronald Martin. Or can Corey Thompson or J. Sandolph make some noise in Spring drills? Sandolph is very athletic and Thompson hits like a truck.
Corner- Jalen Mills and Jalen Collins (two Freshmen last season) will have the first crack at it. But look for Dwayne Thomas to push.
DE- Danielle Hunter, Jermauria Rasco, and Jordan Allen should be the headliner here. But watch out for Quentin Thomas as well.

This team reminds me a lot of 2011 because of all of the positions up for grabs and the fact that we have premium competition in week 1 on a national stage.

Yeah, but White does not show up until August...I fully expect him to not redshirt and play a lot though.

Tahj jones Is too thin to play MLB. Look for Feist to play some inside

QB - Rivers will lock up #2, and Jennings will emerge as the better of the freshman (not because he's a runner, because he can throw it better than many think)
RB - Doesn't matter who takes the first snap of the season, Hill and Blue will get majority of carries, Hilliard and Magee will be key contributors in some fashion.
WR - Dural will be that go-to guy if healthy. He is only 6'2" but has a huge wingspan and can out jump anyone on the field. Leslie will also be big time, but he won't be a factor in the spring.
TE - If Gordon is doing as well as some are saying this offseason, it will be his spot to lose. Interested to see Stokes in the spring and Smith in the fall.
C - somebody will be cross-training to backup Porter (maybe Williford).
RG - agree with you
MLB - Barrow will be the guy initially with Feist battling for playing time. No need to move anyone else.
OLB - Kwon will start, the other side will be a good battle. Debo is the most athletic, Tahj has experience, and don't count out Louis. He earned a lot of snaps in the fall and should improve. I would like to see Beckwith at LB, but he may end up as a DE.
S - Ronald Martin I think has All-American potential and will beat out Eugene. Corey Thompson will be hard to keep off the field next season.
CB - Jalens will start, and if no one just flat out shines in the spring, don't be shocked to see Tre'Davious White get some early PT next fall. I'm curious to see Dwayne Thomas and Derrick Raymond.
DE - Rasco and Hunter will quickly make us forget about losing Montgomery and Mingo. Quentin Thomas is a DT.

That's right, white's not here yet.
I think the LB core will be
Kwon
Barrow
Tahj/Debo
or
Kwon
Feist
Barrow

Forgetting Bolden in that qb mix?

Hill and Blue will be options 1A and 1B and receive the vast majority of the carries.

Quantavious (if he qualifies), Avery Peterson, and Travin Dural should add some size and speed to the group.

Stokes will probably start here as primarily a blocker with Desean Smith as the main receiving threat. Dickson will be kind of the middle ground between the other two and Gordon will likely only see the field in goalline sets like last year.

QT is a tackle, look for Herron and maybe Bower or Neal here.

I thought bolden was gonna leave LSU

Tahj has never been able to put on weight. doubt he moves inside to Mike anyway.
and don't count out Welter at Mike. I kinda expect the starters to be:
Sam - Tahj
Will - Debo
Mike - Barrow
but I wouldn't be shocked with:
Sam - Tahj
Will - Barrow
Mike - Welter
and since I never saw Hatcher at Mike coming in 2011 (he was initially at Sam), who knows what Chavis might do.

Allen will play and he will play a lot.

QB - Mettenberger, it's not an open competition
RB - Hill, clearly
WR - Same as last season since Dural is out and Leslie isn't here yet
TE - No idea what will happen
OL - So many combinations I'm sure they'll try nobody knows what it will end up being. The only sure thing is La'El Collins is starting somewhere
MLB - Pretty much has to be Barrow moving there
OLB - Tahj Jones has a spot promised to him and I think Kwon Alexander was most impressive freshman LB last year
S - Obviously Martin's job to lose
CB - Mills/Collins will be there this spring, but White wins the job over Collins IMO in the fall
DE - Hunter/Rasco and then Allen/Maclin

I also forgot about Lamar Louis...he is stout enough to play inside at MLB...Lorenzo Phillips was a heck of a high school player too. I hope he makes some strides this Spring.

Lamar Louis is one of the most athletic linebackers on the roster. Once the game slows down a little for him, he will start making some noise.

exactly...Chavis plays the players with a nose for the football...not based on size...He was NEVER concerned with Mingo's size and has not been with Tajh Jones either.
I have the utmost faith in whoever Chavis decides on. I just really think that Debo Jones is going to flourish in our defense and end up as our next All-SEC...Chavis has one All-SEC linebacker every year...for like the past 25 years.

any updates on Maclin's progression?
Ultimate tweener, but I hope he finds a position.
