It’s been said here and in interviews that O wants to run a pro style offense with an emphasis on the run game. Now serious question isn’t that the offense that eventually got les miles fired? Further more if our biggest in division rival (Alabama) who we haven’t beat in 7 years, does very well against pro style offense, while at the same time struggling against teams that run spread concepts with a mobile qb, wouldn’t it be best suited for us, especially with the type of athletes the state is currently producing, and such a stud defense, to move to a more spread concept offense with a mobile qb?

I mean shite the last time we beat bama was with a qb who can move a little bit (despite his other short comings).

So I’m really trying to wrap my Mind around this infatuation with the pro style offense. What’s the thinking process here?

That's not what I heard him say.

Depends on which day you listen to him. He’s changed it 2 or 3 times.

ETA yes, the latest is supposedly he wants to run a pro style, old-school (90s) USC Offense.

Les ran the peewee football version of a pro style offense.

When O was hired last year he said he wanted to open it up and run a spread offense. Then he hires Canada and we didn't. Now he fires Canada and says he wants to run a Pro Style offense. I'm fine with a Pro Style offense and we can beat Bama with that type of offense if we have a good quarterback...like a "Pro" type of quarterback. But we haven't had a good enough quarterback to make the pros in a very long time, so unless we get the right players, we won't win the big games running any type of system.

O wants to be pro style. He hinted when he was first hired. When first asked what type of qb he wants to recruit he said pro style. (During the interim coach period) He has Breenan as his top qb. His top qb recruit, the kid from Texas is pro style.

There is difference between Les Miles pro style and Pete Carroll pro style. O wants the USC offense.

There are different types of pro style offense just like there are different types of spread offenses. I wouldn’t call what Miles ran a pro style offense based off of what current NFL teams run. It was based out of i-formation and didn’t utilize rb’s and te’s that is growing increasingly utilized in the NFL.

O wants to run something similar to what they Rabat USC which is closer to what Georgia and Bama run in the modern day game than what Miles was running.

But that QB had nothing to do with that win. In 4 quarters of football, plus an OT, we only scored three field goals. That same QB also did nothing later that season in the BCSCG. Look deeper than simply assuming "win + mobile QB = win was due to mobile QB".

Bama and Georgia run a modern day pro style. There are many variations of pro style offenses. Take a look at the Saints, Patriots, Steelers, Packers, Etc. The teams that consistently move the football are able to to get the ball into play makers hands fast both running and passing. O wants this balance- remember , he coached with Jimmy Johnson, Pete Carrol, and Sean Payton.

As college athletes become closer in speed and athleticism to NFL players, it make sense that we have a version of a pro style.

You must be thinking of Lee's miserable play 3/7 2int, but wouldn't call him mobile whatsoever.
Jefferson had very near 50% of TO in GOC #1, and prolly 75% of TO in GOC #2.

Great assessment, feel the exact same way. The reason we won the first game in 2011 was because Bama missed 3 field goals and in the second game that same qb couldn't get us past the 50. Kiffin said Mayfield would be good against Bama, well, he's a pro style qb, just with mobility. Deshaun Watson has more pro style qualities than people think, he's just a mobile qb but can go through his progressions. I don't care what we run, the qb better be able to read coverages, check down and go through progressions.

Georgia's offense is crap. Look at how it did last year when they weren't elite and experienced at every position.
Watch the drop off next year when they will still have talent but not experience on the OL

You are confusing/conflating a lot of terms that don't mean the same thing.

Les did not run a pro style offense.

And most pro teams are using spread based concepts now anyway.

Well let’s see. Coach O wants to run the pro style cause that is all they have ever done at all of his coaching stops. He will not change his philosophy just like Miles wouldn’t. As for why he runs what Bama can easily stop, cause he wants to beat Bama is an old school hard nosed game in the trenches, well that thought process certainly has not worked in the past 7 years but hey keep on trying O

Not sure why you were being downvoted. In O’s press conference when he accepted the full time the job over a year ago he very clearly stated that he felt a spread offense was needed to win. He has changed his mind since then. But that is most certainly what he said at the beginning.
