Per Matt Zenitz Twitter: Have learned that Alabama defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher has entered the transfer portal

quote:

Sopsher, who prepped at Amite High, was at the center of a LSU-Alabama recruiting battle that the Crimson Tide ultimately won back in 2019. At the time Sopsher was a four-star prospect rated No. 3 in Louisiana and No. 47 nationally according to 247sports rankings. He said on national signing day that his recruitment and decision were "intense," but that Alabama coach Nick Saban was the key to his decision.

Sopsher played in one game in his two seasons at Alabama.

I’m not going to act like I didn’t really want him at LSU but weren’t people questioning his work ethic and overall attitude at the time? This doesn’t really seem surprising.

How many recruiting battles for in state kids did we lose only to come away with the better player?

Cam Robinson hurt
Devonta Smith is an incredible player and he would be a stud with us, but it’s not like we are lacking
Moses? Nah
Chris Allen? Maybe, but queen and Phillips were studs
Hootie? Nope
Mathias? Maybe

We really have seemed to luck out.

Perhaps he's been humbled a bit. If he's willing to work his arse off, I'd take him.

Cam Robinson and Landon Collins are really the only two that stand out in my mind of misses that hurt LSU.

Cam was absolutely a loss.

Moses also hurt a bit.

Devonte is meh due to the talent LSU seemed to come into.

Three of their starting LB are from Baton Rouge, and all would be upgrades over our current starters.

Moses didn’t hurt. He’s a tackle stat padder and the only year he is needed is this year and Lawrence Taylor isn’t fixing this defense.

Cam Robinson hurt really bad. Collins hurt.

Only ones really.

Maybe I’m misremembering, but wasn’t Tim Williams kind of a loss? One trick pony in college who hasn’t done much in the league, but those years I seem to recall us never getting a consistent pass rush.

Yeah he was a good pass rusher under Saban but I’m not sure how he fits under Aranda. But yeah

That was also a weird recruitment. Don’t think we pressed super hard for him.

I said on here at the time of his announcement that he would transfer within 2 years. He peaked early and quit trying.

LSU never offered Tim Williams. The kid needed to get out of Baton Rouge.
