taking a dip and thinking to himself that Welter is still better than Jones.

Chief is lazy and overrated as a DC. I’m not sure anyone was more reliant on elite players than him.

Sumlin’s retention of Chavis- the worst DC in America- cost Sumlin his job.

yep, it was actually Barrow and then Kwon that started over Debo.

for the life of me, I'll never understand why Chief didn't roll this LB unit out in 2013

Lamin - Mike
Debo - Will
Kwon - Sam

I don't think Welter was as bad as most make him out to be, but that woulda been a killer combo

Down vote for bad memory. Debo is not beckwith.

Jones and Welter didn't play the same position. Chief did play Lamar Louis over Debo though, I hated that too.

My season tickets were about 4 seats from Weltters family. I can’t explain how uncomfortable it was to sit there while tiger stadium would yell “Welter you suck!” After each clearly blown assignment.

The $100K check cleared. Don’t care if Chief retires into Les or Sumlin’s garage apartment!

I agree with this. I really think our D-line talent made Chavis who he "is". If you don't have a defensive line, you don't have a defense. We had some NFL lines while he was here.

A&M Defense rankings under Chavis (yds/g):
2015 - 42nd
2016 - 91st
2017 - 59th

It kinda makes you gag to look at those numbers. He's not a schemer like Aranda is. Aranda studies his opponent and has answers for several different opposing offensive schemes per game. Aranda is also probably the best adjustment coach in the country - better than Saban.

He's a god damn Jedi and I want him as our head coach! (if that's possible..)

ETA: didn't realize this, but our defense is actually "better" this year than last year.
2016 - 13th - 323 yd/g
2017 - 13th - 312 yd/g

This could probably be contributed to the terrible offenses we played this year too, though.

I don't like to pile on a kid who gave his all for the team while he was an LSU Tiger. But my memories of him all involve him chasing after someone. From
behind.

Some guys are just better practice players than game players. It's up the coaches to put them where they can succeed.

So at the end of the day, I blame Chavis for putting Welter in a position where he could not succeed.
