Softball vs the cajuns today
Posted by luciouslou on 5/22/21 at 7:30 am914
Gonna be a fun day today. Ladies getting better each game. The Cajuns went 11 innings last night and used up a lot pitching. Big advantage for us

Bro... softball pitchers can throw everyday.
Like 200+ pitches in a single day

Throwing underhand is very low stress on the shoulder and elbow

Are you new to softball?

Been a softball fan years. Yes they can throw much more often than the guys. But they wear out too. In a regional it's alot of pitching

Back in the day, before LSU had a softball program, SW La had a pitcher by the name of Debbie Nichols. She pitched every game for the Ragin crew for a few seasons. In fact she did not pitch in just 3 innings in one entire season. She never let up, slowed down, lost control or got worn down.
Hell Ali Kilponen was 1/3 of an inning away from pitching a double header against Missouri this season. She threw 231 pitches on the day

Look up Brittany Snead and what she did in one day for the Tigers.

Are we really drawing comparisons between UL pitching and Brittany Snead in this thread?
The extra innings are a benefit to LSU today. Probably a small benefit, but a benefit nonetheless.

We have opinions on here saying pitch count and innings don’t matter to the arm but fail to recognize that overall body fatigue, especially lower half absolutely matters. Especially when the pitchers are not accustomed to that load.

Ali's first game against Mizzou. Gave up 2 runs and 4 hits.
Ali's 2nd game after throwing 131 pitches in the 1st game. 3 hits, no runs and only 100 pitches. In baseball it is a benefit for the opposing team. In softball the benefit goes with the pitcher throwing hundreds of pitches. Ali definitely got better as she threw more pitches. They couldn't touch her in the second game. LSU was down 5 runs when she came in

My bad. My dad and I followed La Tech and SW La softball back then. I could have sworn she was a Cajun.
Hell of a pitcher. Gets very little acknowledgement for her accomplishments. She single-handedly beat some of the best programs in the country during her career.

Not really. While the arm fatigue isn't the same as baseball it still gives the opposing team more of a chance to see the pitcher's repertoire. Maybe they never figure it out but it is an advantage for the hitters. Also, natural fatigue just sets in from exertion.
Either way, this discussion is pointless since ULL used two pitchers last night so they shouldn't be fatigued.

Let’s also consider that was Ali’s best day yet as a Tiger. It was the exception, not the rule.
I was also wrong about the 3 innings she didn't pitch in an entire season

Debbie Nichols-Hedrick was not only one of the greatest softball players in Louisiana Tech history, but one of the greatest in NCAA Division I history. Now more than 13 years removed from her playing days for the Lady Techsters, Nichols-Hedrick's name is still etched in both the Tech and the NCAA record books and rightly so. Her dominance on the mound for head coach Bill Galloway from 1987 through 1990 helped lead the Lady Techsters to national prominence. During her four-year career, Nichols-Hedrick, who was Debbie Nichols at the time, became only the second female athlete at Louisiana Tech to ever obtain All-American honors three straight years, accomplishing the feat in 1988, 1989, and 1990. Nichols-Hedrick led the Lady Techsters to the NCAA Tournament in 1987, 1988, and 1989 while also being name the Louisiana Tech Player of the Year as a freshman, sophomore and senior. Perhaps the most amazing state of all when talking about Nichols-Hedrick's career at Tech was when she pitched every inning of the 1988 season for the Lady Techsters, logging 409 innings and amassing 50-8 mark that season.

College softball is different in 2021 than in 1988.

So you are arguing against fact and actual stats? Go for it. What is different for the great pitchers today versus 1988?
