Since 1994, a 20-10 record has won the conference championship

Since SEC baseball went to a thirty game schedule in 1994, roughly half the time a 20-10 record has won the conference championship. 21 or 22 wins will almost always win, although in 2013 LSU had 23 wins to win the West and lost the conference championship to an incredible Vanderbilt team that had 26 wins.

Entering tonight's series with Texas A&M, LSU is 4-2 in the SEC, right on track for a 20 win season. This is after playing maybe its toughest road foe at Florida.

To get to 20-10 you either have to win every series 2 to 1 (there are ten series) or sweep a team here and there. The sweep against Georgia was critical because it was no shock LSU would lose a series on the road to Florida, a preseason favorite to win the East and currently a top 10 team. With a timely hit in the Friday game, LSU would have won the series which is hard to believe because it felt like we were getting dominated.

Even in the years where 20-10 does not win the conference, it always gets you in the NCAA tournament and usually gets you a super regional.

So far this is not the dominating baseball team everyone hoped it would be. But LSU is still very well positioned to make a run at the SEC title, and getting Hunter Newman back should help at a spot where depth is needed.

Complaining about and second guessing the coach is pretty much what baseball fans do, it started a few days after the game was invented. Everyone knows if a player bunts and doesn't move the runner, the coach should have let him swing away and if he swings away into a double play, the coach should have bunted him. It goes without saying that if a starting pitcher gives up the winning run in the ninth, the coach left him in too long but if you yank him and the reliever gives up the run, you pulled your starter too early.

So I am not posting to whine about the whiners, its as much a part of baseball as plunking a kid his next at bat if he admires his home run one second too long.

I am just trying to add some perspective. The other teams are trying too and every player on their rosters was likely an all state player in addition to being mvp of his team and district. LSU is well positioned two series into a ten series season to win the SEC at best or at least get a regional. Looking forward tonight to a great series with the Aggies. Hopefully those at the game leave their understandable midweek negative waves at home. The good news for tiger players is most baseball fans tend to be fickle. You are always one good swing away to going from the goat to the hero.

Too positive. Need to yell and scream a little more. You don't want to fire anyone. You accept mediocrity obviously because your not whining and moaning like a little two year old school girl two days after a loss. I give it a 1.5.

And the rant ignoring perspective began about 2 days after Chicken founded the site.

1982. LSU 20 Alabama 10. That's what 20-10 means to me.

If you can't be angry about the ups and downs of a baseball season, how can you really enjoy it?

We're not the only ones guilty of this I'm sure. Most likely there were many Florida fans that melted when they were swept by Auburn. We enjoy flaunting our meltdowns more perhaps?

This team is capable of winning the SEC, but there has to be more consistency from the bullpen. With our starting pitching and defense, we can still win games when we can't get it going offensively, but the bullpen has to hold together for that to work.

Listen to yourself. There's ups and downs, no reason to get angry after every loss. Let it play out

I keep saying Im waiting to freak out in spite of all the bullshite midweek losses and poor showing with RISP this past weekend.

After every loss I came back down to Earth though. Having said that, I will have no more excuses left if we lose this weekend series to A&M. It's time to turn this season around. 3-1 at worst entering the Arkansas series or I jump on the naysayer bandwagon.

I don't think goat means what you think it means/stands for

ETA: but I do agree with your assesment. I'm not concerned yet. We'll get hot soon.

I can't wait to get your take on tonight's game and I hope that you continue to post the rest of the year. This team is NOWHERE close to as good as it's ranking! I don't care where you want to put the blame. They are just not very good. Lange continues to regress. We can't hit, and PM continues to disappoint with his management of this team. It's sad! LSU is one of the greatest baseball programs in the country, and the product on the field doesn't come close to the investment.
