Should we have a small package of plays for Johnson similar to how saints use Taysom?

The zone read option does not work well with Brennan because teams don’t respect his running ability. They should have 3-4 plays for Johnson to run out of the zone read. He could keep the ball and pick up good yardage with his running ability. Also, to pull up on play action and hit Gilbert over the middle after the LB commits would be devastating.

They should have more traditional running plays for Brennan and have a package of zone read plays for Johnson. Why not?

I would rather just put Boutte, Emery, or someone explosive at wildcat than do that crap with a True Fresh QB

They have experimented some in the past with Kirkland in the wildcat, so that may be worth looking back into

If we were going to do something like this I'd guess it would be with Jontre, but I don't think we'll see that.

I really think LSU thought they could just line up and beat MSU due to talent advantage.
That all looked good on paper until you had opt outs and unfortunate Stingley issue, etc.

LSU got caught with their pants down.

I expect O to get it fixed quick and thankfully you have two more winnable games before you travel to Gainesville.

I dont think it would be a bad idea, gets Johnson some SEC live reps and also this year means nothing to eligibility so it wouldn't "waste" a year for him.

Could be a valuable thing

I hope they have a package of plays for Johnson/Finley as the backup is one bad sack away from playing for real and Brennan does not have the escapability that Burrow had

I think it's worth doing just to make sure that our young QB's actually get some real game time rather than just mop up duty. They need to develop. This isn't replacing Brennan, just giving the D something else to prepare for.

I think its worth doing because Johnson is bigger, stronger and some say faster than Burrow. He could be valuable on short yardage plays.
I doubt Brennan is sturdy enough to plow through the line on a QB sneak.

If they’re going to do it for short yardage I’d use Finley. Listed at 6’6” 242

The point I was trying to make is since Brennan isn’t a run threat install more traditional run plays for him rather than the read option. Some stretch run or power run plays. The read option only works if they respect the running ability of the QB.

If you want to run the read option, have a few plays for Max Johnson to run. I hear he really ran well in the scrimmages. His running ability they would have to respect. Plus there is always the possibility that he could pull up and throw a short pass out of that formation (ie. Tebow jump pass).

Is Finley a quick and athletic runner?

It was nice having a year of no one talking about the back up QBs. Good times.
