He looked more comfortable in the Fla game, that’s saying a lot being it was played in Gainesville.

Players get worse the longer they play on an O coached team

Max was comfortable because he was able to sit in a clean pocket.

No bring in a competent head coach and let him/her bring in their own staff.

re: Should have promoted Callaway as OC
More than that, he has actually been a playcaller and knows what it is like to do so under the pressure of a game situation. It is one thing to be able to gameplan and design an offense...which I'm sure Peetz can do. But it's another to have to make quick decisions about what to call from play to play in a game.

There are two teams in the SEC who are going with the "CEO" model. That is, a HC who has never been a coordinator and is wholly reliant on their coordinators to plan and call the game: LSU and Arkansas.

Arkansas has a DC who has been both a DC and HC for multiple years in his career. They have an OC who has been one for (now) 6 years in his career.

LSU has two guys who have never been coordinators/playcallers (or at least haven't in 11 years - Jones)

Maybe Greg Studrawa can leave Ohio State and Coach the OL and be the OC like he did in 2011.

I'm so tired of the Florida game narrative with Max. Max was still the same mediocre QB in that game that he is now. Only difference was that he was more willing to run the ball.

Burrow, Chase, Jefferson, Clyde et al. counter that statement. What is true is that O's success or failure is the biproduct of the staff around him and right now I'm concerned our coordinators are not ready.

I know I'm going to get DV'd on this, but who is the adult in the room that signs off on hiring 2 coordinators with little to no play calling experience when the HC has no ability to support either side of the ball, scheme wise? That has to be Woodward. Either he knew this was going to blow up and was "counting on it" or he thought this would work.

To the OP, Callaway was there every time Max came off the field going over plays and reads. I'm not saying he should have been promoted, but he sure looked like an integral piece of Max's prep and development.
