It appears rumors, and rumors only at this point, are likely true for Farrell and the best anyone can tell just wishful thinking for Shelvin.

That's how it stands at this time.

My personal take: Farrell is dotting his i's and crossing t's (especially with compliance and the very unclear rules about opt'g in with NCAA) and is on his way back.

Shelvin may reconsider after Farrell, sort of follow the leader type mentality. But don't count on it.

Ferrell tweeted to “watch who you trust” today...take from that what you will.

He just has to make sure he's in good standing academically and hasn't hired an agent. If it's just a matter of opting out of the season like a few players have done, there are no rules or deadlines. He could opt in, then out, the in again....

re: Shelvin and Ferrell rumor of opting back in
I think they both end up coming back. Neil Farrell knows this year is his best chance to be a starter and put film out there for scouts so it just makes too much sense for him. I believe Tyler Shelvin has talked with family and come to the wise conclusion that the best way to keep his weight in check for the draft is to play football and not just workout. He will get pushed harder by O and the staff than he would on his own and he would also be the focal point of possibly the entire defense. By playing and dominating like he knows he can he can prove he’s scheme interchangeable by playing well in both the 3-4 and 4-3. If he sat he would still most likely make himself $5-10 million as a top 50 pick but by playing this year and playing well he could make his family $15-20 million as a guaranteed 1st round pick. That’s a huge difference in money especially when you factor in the taxes.

Theoretically, maybe. But I’m sure O will tell him to shite or get off the pot—if he allows him to come, he is doing so only with the promise of Neil’s 100% commitment to the LSU 2020 football team. If he opts out again, there will be no room left at the LSU Inn.

I would love for both guys to come back. But we play in less than 2 weeks and they have missed very valuable reps in the new defense. They are both probably out of shape, too. They’re not just waltz right in and tell the guys who’ve been there every day to get in the back of the line. They’d be great for depth, but it may be a while before they work their way back to getting starters’ reps. If they even can at this point.

Well, LSU starts off with State, Vandy and Mizzou, so that would give them extra time to get in game shape before they would really be needed. State could be interesting, but it seems like the virus stuff would affect them more with learning a whole new offense, etc.

I don’t think this would happen.
