It can not be understated how bad Cal wanted Smart to come to Kentucky. Either himself or an assistant was at most all of his games his senior year. It also cannot be understated the ties between Cal and Forman, since Forman played for him at Memphis. Forman wanted Smart to go to Kentucky. And would have got a nice kickback for his efforts. So when Wade found out, he got pissed. He knew Dawkins would be in the loop on Javonte’s recruiting because of Dawkins ties to Forman. When he found out that Forman wasn’t telling Javonte or his mother the truth about the offer to be on the starting five from Day One, he went around Forman. He called Dawkins to vent his frustration about Forman and the free housing, free meals, and free education that was worth more than “the rookie minimum” in the NBA that he was offering. Smart wasn’t going pro so it only makes sense that Wade was referring to the scholarship and all that goes with it. Opportunity for his mom to fly with other parents that she wouldn’t be able to do if Smart went to Kentucky. It can not be more obvious that this whole deal is because of John Calipri’s ties to Shannon Forman. It was a two horse race, LSU and Kentucky. I’m looking forward to Coach Will Wade telling his version of events that led to his 3 phone conversations with Dawkins. In the end, I believe he will be cleared of any wrongdoing and Joe Alleva, F King Alexander, and James Williams will have egg on their faces.

Cal has employed the services of the crowned prince of player brokers, Worldwide Wes, for many years. No one manipulates this system better than him.
I'm sure he was pissed he didn't get Smart and I don't find it surprising that the spotlight was shined brightly on our guy as opposed to worse offenders out there, and that his buddy Dickie V was so dismissive of WW in the two LSU games he did even before he unleashed his vitriolic attack on WW after the transcripts were leaked.

Wade indicated that he'd taken a "strong-arse offer" for Smart to a middleman, identified as Forman by Yahoo. But Wade had grown frustrated with delays in closing the deal, apparently because of the middleman's interest in a bigger cut.
The specifics of the “strong-arse offer” weren’t detailed in the conversation.
"The problem was, I know why he didn't take it now, it was [expletive] tilted toward the family a little bit," Wade said on the call with Dawkins, which was secretly recorded by the FBI. "It was tilted toward taking care of the mom, taking care of the kid. Like it was tilted towards that. Now I know for a fact he didn't explain everything to the mom. I know now, he didn't get enough of the piece of the pie in the deal."

Which is why this whole deal has Calipari’s hands all over it. Smart was not a one and done player, which Wade expressed in one of the phone conversations with Dawkins. Calipari is probably the most crooked coach out there.

No. Mom gets plane rides on chartered flights from BR to all the away games, prime seating in the PMAC for all the home games, the opportunity for her to see her son play every game, and the opportunity for her son to start from Day One, improving his chances of making it to the NBA and then “getting paid.”
As far as Forman goes, Wade saying he understands why Forman didn’t take the offer because he wanted a bigger piece of the pie, could be referring to him wanting something in exchange for Smart’s commitment. What Kentucky was offering and something Wade was not comfortable doing.

WW is gone! Period! He's a hot head that let his anger get the best of him. Do you think this is the only thing the FBI has WW saying? Heck no! Do you think LSU is going to sit idly by for months in hopes that everything will turn out ok? No! WW is damaged goods and he won't be a HC for years to come. I have no problem with WW cheating because all the big boys do, but you have to know how to cheat and have enough composure not to let it reach this point. WW should never be talking to middlemen about this type of stuff! He needs to leave that to the assistant coaches and boosters! WW is his own worst enemy. He had a reputation for being a hot head at his last post and it's clear that's still a problem. I get it that LSU fans want him back, but LSU is not going to wait for a federal trial to make a decision on WW. I suspect the payout negotiations will be starting soon, if they haven't already!

If they actually drained the swamp of sleazy NCAA basketball coaches there wouldn’t be any left at the traditional powerhouses.

There may be some truth that Cal wanted and was pissed to miss on Smart. Though the blind optimism of what was being discussed and what will happen is just plain stupid.
