What exactly could happen?

Nothing.

They don't have any real power. They are a nonprofit organizing body.

They only have power because we assign it to them. They aren't a legal legislative body.

They're the sports version of fiat currency. If enough athletic departments across the country decided to organize their own games the NCAA would literally disappear overnight.

re: Shame on the NCAA
quote:

Were the penalties in place before he did this dumb move?

Ok your question is obviously rhetorical, you know the answer to that and so does everyone else.

quote:

Change the penalties to fit the crime going forward.

That is obviously what I was saying!

quote:

No one to blame but KF. I do not understand the people defending him. This is all on him.

I am not saying KF does not have to take responsibility for his actions, he clearly does and he clearly has!!!! He has sat out an entire year of eligibility for his crimes.

So by your thoughts, Otto Warmbier deserved to die because he stole a picture!! He did the crime, and the penalties were in place prior to his arrest. By your reasoning Otto Warmbier has no one to blame but himself! You are wrong we can blame his captors the North Koreans for killing a kid that stole a fricking picture. Otto has to take responsibility for his actions, which he did, but there are a lot of people to blame for his death!!!

He didn't deserve to die because he stole a picture. KF doesn't deserve a 2 year suspension for his actions, and that is why people like myself are defending him. And I am a staunch conservative, the punishment has to be inline with the crime. That is all I am saying and I don't feel the crime justifies that punishment that is why I am defending him. KF has to take responsibility for his actions, which he has done, but there is plenty of blame to go around for an unjust punishment!

Retaliate by scheduling only pwr5 games and ignore the NCAA.

Pave the way. Begin the process of a new CFB mainstage without the NCAA.

Dudebro2......
You need to calm down with all of the "10 years for stealing gum" analogies.
quote:

The whole point of a punishment is to deter the young man from making that mistake again.
WRONG......These punishments also send a message to others (not to break the rules). Your attitude is a large part of what is wrong with today's youth.....not taking responsibility for your actions. Here's a thought....quit recruiting thugs.

This. This. This.

Also, why the hell is weed even being tested for? It's just a recreational substance like alcohol, not a PED.

NCAA have their favorites. I don't think would give a crap if this same situation happened to one of their favorite teams and they rule the other way.

Solid reasoning bootlicker

"Because congress and Jeff Sessions say so" is about the worst defense of any argument.

In a perfect world, yeah.

In the real world, this is how your football program ends up like Harvard or Navy.

Except LSU doesn’t have the academic prestige those schools have to make up for their lack of athletic dominance.

The words “arbitrary and capricious” come to mind...
how can a penalty be "arbitrary and capricious" when it's known in advance, is consistent, and is essentially a multiplier of another penalty?

It may be too harsh, but that's another issue. It's not arbitrary and capricious.

Ok I have to give you the benefit of the doubt now that I can clearly assume from your user id you are IRISH. So I will try and dummy this down for you a little.

Do you know the definition of "deter," which I clearly stated in my post and you copied it? So the word "deter" means the same thing as "these punishments also send a message to others (not to break the rules)." That is why it is called a DETERRENT! Not detergent but deterrent! Do you think a one year suspension is a deterrent for the crime? My answer is YES to not only KF but to all players! A 2 year suspension and taking away 2 years of eligibility is now attacking the career of a kid, not just punishing a kid for his mistake.

Your attitude is a large part of what is wrong with today's youth.....not taking responsibility for your actions

Again your Irish so I will try and come down to your intelligence level and help you comprehend that if you look at my post there is no where in it that inferences or suggest that KF shouldn't pay for his crimes. Matter of fact, this goes back to your lack of comprehension skills, I clearly stated he should have to pay for his actions and felt that a ONE year suspension was an adequate punishment for his actions.

quote:

Here's a thought....quit recruiting thugs.

So KF is a thug because he smoked some spice? KF is a thug because as a 18 year old kid he made a stupid mistake of smoking spice and trying to cover it up? From your post it sounds like you have some racist tendencies!

Ok you gave me a thought, now let me reciprocate and give you one!!!

Go eat a potatoe, as that is obviously all you are good at!

1. Penalty was in place but nobody knew it even the NCAA investigator when it happened. They were surprised by it. Also multiple clauses could be applied with differing penalties - so why this one in this case. NCAA has offered no explanation of that.

2. KF submitted a valid sample for analysis. In a civil court he would not be guilty of anything.

3.KF has passed 31 or more drug tests since this incident but yet he is held in worse light as PED offenders.

Point is they went to the NCAA to plead that he has served his time and should be considered against other clauses that have lighter penalties that would be over by now.

You’re being obtuse and ridiculous. This isn’t North Korea. The idiot used drugs (which is against the law) and then attempted to cheat the system. He deserves the punishment.
It’s quite simple. Don’t do drugs. Don’t cheat. Otherwise, deal with the consequences.

This is so funny. Do you realize that the pass level for this test is not a zero detect. The test simply shows the level of THC in the system so many of these kids test positive but pass the test. Also, his test result was a pass level in the NFL. I think his test result was a couple of tenths above the NCAA level because he had smoked a few days earlier. So if he had smoked two weeks earlier he would have passed that test protocol.

The kicker here was that the test he was submitting for was not even testing for pot. They were screening for PEDS which he was clean...

No I am not being ridiculous and this isn't North Korea. What I was obviously trying to do is point out that in some cases the crime doesn't warrant the punishment awarded. Is the Warmbier case an extreme example? Absolutely, but that is what I was trying to accomplish to show that in some cases the punishment doesn't fit the crime! I feel that in this case.

quote:

The idiot used drugs (which is against the law) and then attempted to cheat the system. He deserves the punishment.

Yes he smoked "spice" and he compounded that mistake by trying to cover it up. It was a stupid mistake by a young man and yes he has to deal with the consequences WHICH HE IS!!! What I clearly have stated is I don't think the punishment fit the crime! If you do than that is your prerogative, but that is obviously coming from a person that has never been a competitive athlete and doesn't understand that taking away 2 years from a 4 year program could affect his career going forward. Is that what the NCAA is in the business to do not teach young men and women but destroy their possible careers when they make a stupid mistake???

re: Shame on the NCAA
The NCAA decided (after much discussion from all sides) that a two-year suspension was appropriate. Your entire issue seems to be one vs two-year suspension. BTW....a "deterrent" can be for the individual AND others who contemplate such inappropriate behavior.
I state once again, your attitude is what is wrong with today's youth. The punishment MUST be severe enough in order to be a deterrent. You probably think there are too many people in prison because our system is somehow, unfair.

I agree!

I also feel that a ONE year suspension is enough of a deterrent to players.

Nope not at all, I am pro-police, pro-justice system and a staunch conservative so I believe don't do the crime if you can't do the time. I just continue to say that I don't think the punishment fits the crime. I am saying a person shouldn't get a 10 year sentence for stealing a pack of gum. I am saying that taking 50% of this kids eligibility away for making a dumb mistake of smoking spice and then trying to cover it up doesn't warrant a 2 year suspension. Understanding that this kids plan on a career is the NFL "which it sounds like he is obviously good enough to attain that goal" and taking away half of his time to compete for that opportunity is way too harsh and doesn't fit the crime!
