Damn. He was a project, but OT is not a position where we can afford to lose bodies. Tough loss

Thin as ever at this position. It's crucial that Malone and TW stay healthy

Article or twitter says something along the lines of "he spent a couple days and then left"

Probably some nerd no one liked.

Dude is listed as 6'8 320 though, so its a loss

Project for sure, but he was a body at our thinnest position. Charles will have to play tackle and we'll likely sign 3 OT's in the '18 class.

Incredibly difficult to keep two tackles healthy all year in this league. Quality depth is what wins.

I feel like this question is asked yearly but does that mean we gain an additional scholarship for the 2018 class?

You don't gain an additional next year, you just have his to give to someone else.

This year, they'll likely give his scholarship to a senior walk on who is deserving. This happened to my brother a few years ago. Ended his career with 1 tackle

Yes, OTs seem to be hard to come by. We do have a solid group of freshman linemen though.

LT - Deculus
LG - Ingram
C - Cushenberry (RS)
RG - Charles
RT - Savage (RS)
TE - Pettigrew (RS)

I know this won't play out like this (as current sophomores and juniors will mix in), but we'll still be fine moving forward.

This will open up more scholarships for people like

Breiden Fehoko

LSU Lands Huge Transfer DT Breiden Fehoko
https://www.andthevalleyshook.com/2017/4/17/15329480/lsu-lands-huge-juco-transfer-breiden-fehoko-lsu-football-recruiting

quote:

Stats: Fehoko started in all 12 games last season, one of only two Red Raiders on defense to start every game of the season. He finished the year with 19 tackles, 10 solo stops, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He also led the team with five quarterback hurries. During his freshman season the year prior, Fehoko earned the starting nod in all 13 games, finishing with four tackles for loss, a sack and an interception. He was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention by the league’s coaches.

and

Jonathan Giles

quote:

Stats: Giles was one of the country’s best receivers last season, playing in 12 games for Texas Tech with seven starts. He led the Red Raiders in receiving yards (1,158) and touchdowns (13) on 69 catches. He also led Texas Tech in all-purpose yards with 1,158, averaging 96.5 receiving yards per games last season. He finished fourth in receiving yards in the Big 12, and his 13 touchdowns were the most by a Red Raider since 2013. In short, the Tigers are getting a receiver who has shown he can produce at the college level. He ranked 9th in Texas Tech team history in receiving yards in a single season.

Outlook: LSU only has eight scholarship receivers on the roster right now, which is a low number when compared to the rest of the SEC’s depth charts. The Tigers are already set to take a big receiver class in 2018, but adding Giles will give the Tigers a solid option right away in the slot. And it comes at the right time with both D.J. Chark and Russell Gage in their senior seasons, meaning they will both be gone from the roster - and that slot position - by the time Giles takes the field during the 2018 season.

and

Thaddeus Moss

Randy Moss' son.
quote:

Stats: Moss earned three starts as a true freshman last fall, finishing the season with six receptions for 49 yards and one touchdown. He left high school as the No. 18 tight end prospect in the 2016 class, graduating from Mallard Creek in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Outlook: LSU only has five scholarship tight ends on roster headed into the 2017 season, and Moss will be able to practice with the team this fall, though he isn’t able to take the field until 2018. By then, Foster Moreau and JaCory Washington will be seniors, Caleb Roddy will be a junior and Jamal Pettigrew and Moss will be sophomores. Expect the Tigers to also add at least one tight end in the 2018 class.

Is there any chance that Roddy is moved to tackle?

I see that Charles is mentioned, but are there any others on the current roster who are capable of playing there?

As others have said, it has been really tough for LSU to find and keep tackles.
