LSU is 100-44 since 2000 against SEC opponents in regular season games. This covers 18 seasons. Interestingly, our record is identical from 2000-08 (50-22) and from 2009-17. This is just under a 70% clip, and obviously the same percentage applies to the first 9 years v. the second 9 years. Our SEC record prior to this era was 224-178-22, good for a 55.8% clip, FYI. Bill Arnsparger went 13-2-1 in the SEC in three seasons, good for a 86.7% clip.

Don't know what all that means, just thought it was interesting enough to point out.

We've gone 5-3, 5-3 and 6-2 in the last three years. Back in the earlier 2000s, 5-3 got us in the title game. Nowadays, we can't sniff a title game with that record.

We have definitely been consistent, in the historical sense. You mentioned Arnsparger. The thing about Arnsparger is that he was a road warrior. And LSU was used to losing on the road. He flipped that quickly. The current LSU team needs to flip the current script the same way, win against Alabama, beat down State, etc.

The west has continued to strengthen since 2000.
It doesn’t appear to be getting any easier either.
We have to be able to beat Alabama to break their dominance.

That's what happens when Alabama is in a down period. Look at the East since Tennessee has been down. Quite a few teams with marginal conference records have won the division.

Good post and info.

Almost makes that 10-4 SEC record against an incredibly weak SEC schedule since O took over seem not so great.

That’s a 71.4% clip btw

This is the most interesting part imo. So even in the supposed down period in Miles’ last years when we only won the SEC once, we were equal in conference to the period that brought us three SEC titles and two NCs.

I wonder what changed??

Those were some simpler times.

We were 2-3 in conference after gagging away the Ole Miss game in 2001. You'd have to be huffing paint that night to believe we'd win the SEC and Sugar Bowl.

Nick Saban at Alabama. We have no margin for error when they only lose one game a year. Then, even when we might have a chance, Auburn has had fantastic seasons in 2010 and 2013. Not to mention it has become a guaranteed L on the schedule every year. We never had guaranteed Ls until 2012.

I was being rhetorical, but it really is incredible how much Saban has skewed the perception of what we expect or see as a success.

That’s why I’ve really tried to avoid talk of winning the West at this point, even under O. I really don’t think that’s fair to hold anyone to, the same way it wasn’t for Miles for years, although I did say before 2016 if we didn’t get to Atlanta with LF and that 14 class it was time for a change (assuming an offensive minded HC would be brought in, not our fricking DL coach )

I’m happy keeping the bar for success at 10-2, even though that likely means missing out on Atlanta.

I mean, in the past 10 seasons, Saban has lost more than one regular season game only ONCE, and that was eight fricking years ago in 2010.

At some point, yes, a coach has to be held accountable if we are constantly fighting for second or third place, but this isn’t the year imo.

I can tell you one thing, Dave Aranda was palpably embarrassed following that MooU game. That dude is going to be on a mission from hell against them this year, and also against UF to get back at Mullen. If there were 2 games I had to put money on our defense being dominant this year, it'd be those two (assuming we aren't ravaged by injuries). He started this year's MooU game plan on the night after the loss in Starkville.
