Updated through yesterday (11 or 12 conference games played), LSU has the 4th highest team batting average in the SEC in conference games only.

Only Miss St, Ole Miss and Vandy have higher team batting averages.

The team we play next weekend, Missouri, is in next to last place with a team BA of .213 in conference only games. S Carolina is last at .189.

However, Missouri has the best team ERA in conference only games, 2.02 earned runs per game.

LSU has the third best team ERA at 3.17 after Georgia in second place at 3.12.

In last place in conference only games ERA is Florida at 7.41 earned runs/game. ("Hire O'Sullivan!!!")

You're right, O'Sullivan sucks.

O’Sullivan is just an awful coach. No one would want him

Good stuff Russian.

While we bitch and moan about our hitters, we really are not that bad.

Pitching is dominating the hitting across the league. The key as I see it is to scrap, work the headliners deep into the count, get them out the game so you can attack the opponent’s pen.

Do y’all feel like you could replace Missouri with “our next opponent” week in week out?

SEC pitching is damn ridiculous.

But the Aggies were in first place and already printed t-shirts.

Those goobers are so fun to laugh at.

We definitely need to cut down our number of times striking out, 116 times....fourth worst in the SEC in conference games.

Only Kentucky, South Carolina and Missouri have struck out more times in conference games.

But it's interesting that we our batters are second best in the conference in drawing walks at 54. Only Ole Miss has walked more times with 58.

Quite the contrast.....

We have kids playing SEC ball for the first time and they appear to be overmatched versus SEC headline pitching especially lefty v lefty.

I do see some reason for optimism from Beloso and Gio. Willis too.

Tough lefties also hurt our top five (with Cabrera healthy) and we have seen more than our share of those.

Any stats or thoughts on being thrown out at the plate? Two in one inning yesterday!

And they are? Honest question. Apparently you like statistical work, I don't, but enjoy the labors of those who do. If not for that the Tigers would've at least gone to extra innings in the first game.

I don’t know if the stats back it up but most of the line up has decent ABs. They aren’t striking out on 4 pitches.

Nature of the game.

First baseman made an excellent play on the first one. Perfect play resulted in the out. Anything goes wrong we score.

Second was with two outs and again it took a good throw and catch to get Reid. This was more of a gamble than the first out. Reid isn’t very fast, but it took a well executed play to get him. One our and they wouldn’t have sent him.

It's been a marked improvement since the start of conference play. Even though we struggled against the friday guy from Kentucky, you could see guys having better ABs. Outside of the 2 game stretch of McNeese and the first Mississippi State game, the approach has been better.

I didn't get to see game 1 yesterday, so I can't comment on that, but even against Doxakis we were making him work a ton except for one inning.

ETA: I've been busy with stuff so I haven't logged any games since the Kentucky series, so I can't tell if the pitches per plate appearance are up. But my eyes are telling me that they are.

Also, A&M came into the weekend striking out the most batters in the country.

If you are still talking about the two runners being thrown out at the plate, that was in game two yesterday . That’s the game we win.
