I wish we had the balls to try and make a splash. But I guess this is what I should expect these days.

Seems like the splash names appear to be going to the basketball first schools at the moment. I really wish we fired Johnny last year. There were more names out there then that people would have trusted.

No doubt. It's a "safe" hire for sure.

What is your issue with Kermit?

I think people have legit concern with Kermit. Here's why:

He's spent the last 15 years at Middle Tennessee State, sounds awfully similar to Johnny Jones in that aspect. No big conference program has wanted him the last 14 years?

Another legit criticism: He failed to make the NCAAT his first 10 seasons there. Since then, he's made it 3 times, which is great, but what happened those first 10 years? He certainly wasn't bad, but hovered right around average, .500 ish. He's not going to get 10 or even 5 years here to get the ship righted. We need to see results by Year 3 at the latest.

Davis is not a "Johnny come lately" at MTSU. He's had good success there for a while. Yet, he's still at MTSU after 15 years. Plenty of SEC jobs have come available during that time, yet he is still there. Don't you have to ask why?

I know Drew would have taken the job in 2008, but even with The Baylor clusterfrick, I can't see him leaving for this job now.

Guys like Drew, Prohm and Buzz Williams would be very tough gets. However (assuming LSU would be wiling to pay), I think there are enough connections to the region where LSU could have a solid pitch to all three.

Why would Scott Drew leave Baylor for LSU exactly? Does he have ties?

His dad Homer was once an assistant here under Dale.

LSU was 13/14 in SEC salary with Johnny

If they are willing to pay top 4 money, they could get those guys.

Yea. As for the "LSU/BR connection" group it's tough not to think of Bennett but he's proven he can win at the highest level with UVA so that one remains in the dream tier.

All that being said, i think if you watch MTSU you'll see Kermit is so much ridiculously better than Johnny that its almost sad. But I totally agree he should be our like plan H or something.

Really? What Drew has done at Baylor (with many players LSU did/should have recruited) is remarkable. When he took over Baylor was a historic dogshit program on the closest thing to the death penalty we have seen since SMU. They were on significant probation his first 4 years there. Hell, in his third season they weren't even allowed to play non-conf. games! They made the NCAAT the first year they finally came off of probation.

You could argue he has done the best job in all of college basketball over the last 10 years.

Dont disagree at all he's an upgrade from Johnny, but a lot of folks would be. I was just listing out legit criticisms of Kermit.

True, but Bennett doesn't have any "basketball connections" to Louisiana/the SEC. I doubt his wife would be SO desperate to get back to BR that he would be willing to leave a program he has built into a legitimate championship contender.

Prohm coached in LA for several years and has staff members with deep ties to the gulf coast

Williams is a TX native (two of his best players at Marquette were from TX) who has coached in LA.

Drew (in addition to the Dale Brown connection) recruits Louisiana as well as any school outside the state

Musselman: Jumps around too much.
Kermit: Stays in one spot too much.

pre Johnny I could have gotten behind the Davis hiring, I wouldn't have been a big fan but could wrap my head around it. But following this past season....they need to make a statement
