I feel good about everything else.

Bama signed 2 of the top 10 OT's

TAMU had good OT success as well.

DT, QB and OT are the hardest to field with top notch starters (and depth).

I think we'll be there at DT and QB and across the roster now...

My biggest area of "worry" is the OT position.

Between Dare, Deculus and Charles... plus the new recruits and hopefully Parker...

Will we have future NFL caliber OT's?

It is essential to have sufficient offensive success...

Charles

I'd love to hear why. My assessment of Charles and Deculus is their first step is slow. They seemed to self-realize this, and surely worked their butts off to improve their technique, and also seemed to jump early on almost every play as compensation.

I am left to wonder if they just don't possess the fast twitch/acceleration to give our offense the top chance it needs. Burrows surely needs better pocket presence and the ability to get rid of the ball faster when pressured....but he had speedy DE's constantly blowing by our Tackles...So...

From reports, Rosenthal has that.

Ray Parker may also, if he follows thru and signs.

The kid from Michigan (Bradford) we just signed is closer to guard height (6' 5"?) but he seems to have the first step and skillset and length to handle OT.

My guess/hunch,and is nothing but that, is that Rosenthal, Parker or Bradford need to develop fast to bring the athleticism we need at LT...and Charles, Deculus, Parker, Bradford and whomever else can fight it out for RT.

But, I am wondering if someone with more experience with Tackle evaluation/play might offer a different-or-better assessment?

Charles likely stays at one of the OT spots.

I think there will be every opportunity in the spring for Rosenthal to take one of the OT spots. I was curious to see how Bradford would do bc he was a highly rated OT out of Michigan, but he's put on a lot of bad weight that he needs to lose if he wants to stay OT vs OG.

IDK if Traore just needed to adjust to SEC speed, but he struggled horribly last spring. If/when Parker signs he will need to add weight if he opts for OT vs TE, but he has the athleticism to be a very good OT. Deculus may slide to OG unless he develops.

Lot of options, but there will be a lot of questions going into the spring.

I,agree with the OT assessment current state. I do,think that training can move the needle on quickness and footwork skills mewhat.

Burrow pocket presence is better than you think. First year starter. Below average Oline for the SEC. I’m experienced WR group.

Without Burrow we are 6 and 6 or 7 and 5 at best.

From the videos I've seen of Kardell Thomas, he's very athletic, I'd try him at OT. Watched videos of Bradford and I'm concerned about him making it as an SEC OT.

In my opinion Charles took a signicant step back this season- I was suprised by this. All the other "tackles" are not real quick or that athletic. That has been the problem at tackle for quite a while. Qutckness and athletecism can't be coached. It can be improved, but for the most part, you either have it or you do not.

No, Kardell stays at guard. He should start there with Hines backing him up.

Charles is a guard playing tackle. This is fine for every game except Alabama. Rosenthal and Wire, etc are the big, long, athletic types that need to fit into the tackle spots. A lot of these guys are just now really learning pass blocking. Prior to college it's mostly a novelty and they miss on a lot of footwork and scheme sublties, so there's a learning curve involved.

O-Line has been horribly mis-managed for years now. It's not going to be a quick fix. It's going to take a couple 5-star, NFL proto-types or a few years of weight training and grooming.
