If Gathers doesn't sign with Baylor on signing day, I think he's heading to LSU for sure if we hire Drew, maybe even if we hire JJ. Who knows though.

Drew has three recruits signed with Baylor. Rico Gathers is the fourth, but he is unsigned. If Drew went to LSU, Gathers would definitely follow. I think LJ Rose would follow. Austin would probably wait until Baylor makes their hire and decide from there. If it's a good hire, he'd stay at BU, IMO. The other signed guy is a project. I haven't kept up with him, so I don't know what he'd do.
Rico just tweeted to Baylor's player Quincy Miller around 30 minutes ago in response to Quincy asking his followers if he should stay at Baylor or enter the draft.
@qmillertime all i know is one year with your boy and you'll go out with a bang. Whatever you wanna accomplish i'm coming to help ya bro.
Doesn't sound like he's ready to jump ship, but he is a teenager so that could change overnight.

I bet you he wants more than Calipari money, he wants Calipari money, Kentuckyesque recruiting budget, and Kentuckyesque BB facilities.

He will listen if the money is there. However at LSU its
Football > Baseball > Basketball
in that order. LSU Baseball was not there yet during the Final Four years, now its elite status. There's only so much booster interest, and it's going to Football and Baseball.
NCAA Basketball with one and done has significantly reduced interest in the sport, especially during the regular season.
The question is, will he want to go somewhere where hoops is not an religion???

basketball will get the money over baseball, especially coaching wise.
Our women's basketball coach makes more than PM

no, the question is, will the LSU Admins spend the money to make LSU basketball competitive. We built a new practice facility. But, we need more. We need to have some of the best facilities in the country to compete nationally. If LSU doesn't want to be a big boy, there's no point in even trying to hire a big boy coach.

there's only a handful of big name schools where basketball is number 1.....and he's not getting a job at any of them.
LSU basketball can be just as big as baseball if done right.

Absolutely. Considering basketball is a bigger national sport.

This is the dumbest fallacy that gets repeated here.
Baseball has more fan support right now, because the baseball team has had more recent success. But LSU fans are notorious bandwagon fans. If LSU basketball would return to success, LSU basketball attendance would overtake baseball in average attendance.
By most, if not all other measures, LSU basketball is well ahead of baseball. Manieri even makes less than the women's basketball coach.

I think it's all in terms of how you talk about it.
From the standpoint of national recognition, history and fan support I think baseball is vastly superior than basketball at LSU.
But, as you said, basketball has much higher revenue potential.

The fact the LSU is tops in the country in baseball and one of the worst SEC teams in basketball, yet basketball is still ahead of baseball in most criteria should be evidence enough.

Agree 100%
I like LSU baseball. I pull for them, hope they do well and enjoy watching them reach Omaha. The fact remains however that college baseball is stil just a blimp on the national sports radar. If LSU basketball could develop some winning consistency, the PMAC would start rocking again.

I would be willing to bet that nationally, more fans know LSU because of Shaq, as compared to fans that actually know LSU has a baseball team.

Outside of college baseball fans, no college baseball program has any national recognition. As far as national writers, ESPN, talk radio, etc. are concerned, college baseball doesn't exist.
Sure the college world series gets some air time, but so does college softball and lacrosse.

I probably didn't express my thoughts the best initially.
I don't disagree with you. AND I get tired of people saying, "We can't hire this guy or this guy cause LSU basketball is a joke."
LSU is one of the premier athletic institutions in the nation. Historically, our baseball team is probably even more accomplished than our football team (IIRC our track team is even more accomplished than both). In THAT sense, it supersedes basketball. Because of what Skip built, we have a really rabid LSU baseball fan base as well. One that won't evaporate simply because we have a bad coach or two, IMO.
But, college baseball has such a minimal following from a national perspective, basketball, even bad basketball, will always be more reputable.
To me, LSU should be able to hire a great coach. Obviously we aren't going to get K, Self, Williams, Cal, Pitino level coach, but LSU SHOULD be able to hire from that 2nd tier. For instance, a guy like Jamie Dixon. If Dixon doesn't want the job, that's another issue entirely, but we shouldn't automatically be out of contention from him just because "Pitt basketball >>>> LSU basketball."
That probably didn't make any sense.

I understand what you are saying and I agree. Now, I am going to slowly back away from this thread before some thin-skinned baseball fans come crying over here about how awesome baseball is.
