Anytime we don't win the last game of the season it's disappointing.

a) With only 2 of 8 position players from '17 playing regularly, replacing our entire weekend rotation, and injuries, injuries, and more injuries we probably went as far as could be reasonably expected.

b) Kinda neat to think that we eliminated from the SECT all three SEC teams that made the CWS.

c) We peaked in the SECT. Seemed to have no energy left in the regional.

d) We had some really ugly innings and games this year (one against Mizzou, game 1 inning 7(?) vs OM, the USC series, and OSU). I don't recall us having that many ugly performances in a single season before.

e) Difficult to listen to is Blair Chris. I listened to him call about 6 games. Guy simply doesn't speak "baseball."

f) Already looking forward to 2019!

Chris Blair is doing well. I miss Hawthorne, but Blair is a fine replacement.

They did the best they could with what they had.

As shitty as it is to admit it, Oregon St. is a good baseball team and they were just flat out better this year. Also helps them that they play extremely well at home compared to us playing extremely poor on the road.

Kudos for them gutting through the season though. Next season should be an Omaha run type team!

Not to make this into a Chris Blair thread but I actually think he does baseball the best of the 3. Not that he's bad at the others I just think he's really good at doing baseball games.

We screwed up playing UP in the SEC tourney......... a 3 or 4 seed anywhere else except for Corvallis and Pawl might have squeaked us in. But let’s be real, OSU is the better team this year. Everyone in Omaha will have their hands full with the PEDOS

I have a feeling LSU might of been headed to Corvallis no matter which seed they were.

I haven't pulled any stats, but this season felt like one of the worst for untimely hitting. Runners in scoring position with no outs or 1 out, then coming away withing nothing.

We blew out our pitchers a.k.a. Hilliard in the SECT and that injury alone hurt our chances vs. OSU in Corvalis. I still think OSU beats us, but that would have given us a chance to get into the winners bracket and only have to win 3 games like OSU did. Once we got into the losers bracket we were toast, and CPM knew it like the rest of us.

Wait till next year boys.

BTW, one reason CPM is so good at the SECT is that a lot of the other coaches don't care about going deep there to save their arms. Vandy won the CWS after getting knocked out in the first game. Do you think anyone remembers that? I do because I live in Nashville, but nobody else cares.

Was enjoying this post until this asinine comment

I'll take Chris Blair over "it's a long fly ball, way back way back and caught by the second baseman" anyday.

I get that JH was legend and so many tiger fans only knew Jim Hawthorne, but Christ Almighty, Chris Blair has more than proven himself

Only knock on Blair is that he skips too many pitches while talking about Twitter and such.

I didn't compare Blair to Hawthorne. I'm comparing his game calls to what every baseball fan who's ever listened to a baseball game on radio understands as "baseball." Blair is just backwards. It's like listening to a foreign language.

Fastballs don't "drop in" for a strike. That's what's asinine.

Your concern is somewhat substantiated by stats. We hit ok. We just didn't score the runs. And we hit into too many DPs.

2018 SEC Baseball Stats

5th in BA
8th in runs
11th in walks
1st in fewest # of K's
2nd in most # of DPs

Oregon State was/is better than we are in 2018 in every facet of the game. Having Mooch and Labas would not have allowed us to win the Corvallis Regional.

Blair did very well with baseball. I prefer Blair to Hawthorne for any sport.

5th is hitting okay, but I want top 4 for LSU.. We had a fairly mediocre schedule as well.

The 8th in runs stinks
11th in walks is bad but
11th in OBP is really bad
10th in homers doesn't help with run production, this goes back to people who argue you don't need homerun hitters.. even when you struggle as a team to string along timely hitting at least the home-run nets you runs.
12th in HBP is strange for us considering the Jordans, but Bryce missed most of the season. We didn't have much help from the pitchers.

Interesting stat is Ole Miss and Florida were the last two in sac bunts. Florida had 10 all season. We had 34.

One thing I really liked about the Tenn Tech team, even for being a homerun team, they all had high batting averages, and they were willing to work counts and take walks.

We were 2nd in stolen bases, which makes the massive amount of DPs strange. We really had too many DPs.. and it seemed like all the time! I don't believe we turned many on the other side.

I love the balance of talent, speed, and power we should have in the lineup next season. It's incredibly exciting.

We were short of pitchers thanks to injury. It happens.

The team got a lot farther than many people expected them to. I'm proud of their effort.

See above. We can't just pull pitchers out of thin air.

I think he does a great job and his call with the Peterson double was awesome.
