As a fan I think you can be optimistic about the future and acknowledge that there were positive signs in last night's game without "lowering the standards" of LSU football.

We fired Miles because he couldn't do two things essentially: Develop a quarterback and beat bama. (And he had 3 or more losses for five straight years)

Miles' last game at Bama in 2015:

Total yards: LSU-182 Bama-434
TOP: 20:33
First downs: LSU-12 Bama-28
3rd down conversions: 3-11
YPC: 2.1
Completion %: 32% (6-19)
Turnovers: 1
Penalties: 7 for 48 yards

2017:
Total yards: LSU-306 Bama-299
TOP: 34:07
First downs: LSU-16 Bama-14
3rd down conversions: 9-19
YPC: 3.6
Completion %: 48% (15-31)
Turnovers: 1
Penalties: 5 for 30 yards

There is some serious improvement there in key areas we normally struggle with. Our o-line and d-line played their asses off for 60 minutes. It was the toughest game we've given them offensively since we had Mett. There's reason to think that with improved quarterback play we can be a dominant team next year.

I'm giving O until next year to develop a quarterback that can get us back to the top, which means beating bama and getting us to Atlanta. Whether it's Brennan, Narcisse, or a freshman stud it doesn't matter. We need a playmaker at quarterback.

If he can't get that done and people are accepting that then I would agree that the goalposts are being moved. But right now it's perfectly reasonable to be optimistic imo.

We also need a REAL playmaker receiver or two that can make a QB look good. We have some good ones, not great.

OK. You need to play that hand completely out.

2015 LSU was number two in the nation going into that game and undefeated.

LSU lost two game after that, both to SEC teams, both rivals: Ark (8-5) at home and Ole Miss (10-3) away. Offense scored a lot of points to good teams.

2017 LSU was rank 19th(?) going into the game, with two losses to Troy at home and Miss St (7-2 atm with Bama up next).

So, just pump the breaks just a little here. I know you are excited, but we have a LONG way to go to sniff at being #2 in the nation in the near future.

So for we are 0-2 on your criteria.

However, I believe we fired Miles because he would not listen to the money people behind the administration. The internal conflict started to bleed through.

Regardless, LSU played better than 2015, but not as nearly as much as you think.

You tremendously help him make his point and then tell him to pump the "brakes"?

losing to bama had nothing to do with why they (not we) fired Miles. Miles got fired bc he had no clue how to improve the offense and he showed no real interest in trying.

Not my intent. Before the Bama game in 2015, being ranked #2 was a pretty good position to be in vs where we were before this Bama game. 2015 team fell apart after the Bama game. 2017 team fell apart at the beginning of the year and rebounded nicely with a few breaks.

And we kept hearing how bama would have enough back up to keep their linemen fresh

The O and D line really did come through

I hear ya. But the 2015 team looked great against weak competition and got exposed when they played decent teams. The offense did almost nothing against Bama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and A&M. They got worse as the year went on.

I'd also say being number 2 after 7 games doesn't mean much when you lose three in a row right after.

I agree. But I'm willing to give O (or any coach in general) more than one year to get the job done. But O's leash should obviously be a hell of a lot shorter than an established successful coach.

I disagree. The main things I saw were our lines protecting much much better this year and our defense getting after the quarterback much more effectively. Plus our run game actually had them off balance most of the game.

All I saw all week were emotional posts about how we were "ridin" and gonna win. Now people are surprised and butt hurt that we lost to a team that signs a #1 or 2 class every year the past 8 years?

I saw a great gameplan that was executed very well given our limitations at qb and youth. We sustained drives that kept the D fresh. We had an unfortunate penalty that negated a great punt return that kept us from flipping field position. Bama kept the field position won almost all night, and no one is gonna score much when you need between 70-90 yds to go.

We had opportunities but couldn't complete some chances. My biggest disappointment overall was the pass call at the goal line to a short side of the field w one receiver. Poor throw, and I hated the formation combo w the call.

Nevertheless, I felt like if we could have caught a break (INT, Fumble, punt return) we could have possibly pulled an upset on the road at night. I mean, anyone who watched that game knew it was closer than the score showed and we were just a big play away from it being a nail biter all game.

I loved the effort, gameplans and generally the execution.

Anyone who wants to moan about the way LSU played last night needs to turn in their fan card. For frick's sake Oh St got run out of the stadium by Iowa in week 9!

O will recruit, and if Canada has Etling performing to the max of his abilities (which the stats all year say he is), then our offense will be very solid with him coaching with more talent.
