Early point of emphasis — Some quotes from CEO:

“We need to do better... Those swing routes were not very good.”

“We have some backs that are very good out of the backfield, especially John Emery on some routes.”

“There's a lot of routes we're not running yet, but obviously, we're going to continue to grow in this offense... We’re not where we want to be yet.”

LINK

I’d love to see more production from the backs as well, but I think vs UTx Joe was just feeling hot & their DBs were overmatched.

It’s hard to imagine an offense more dynamic than what we saw this past weekend, but if they find a way to get those guys consistently involved... that’s what it will be.

The stable of backs they have has enough talent to be as threatening as the WRs. Just more dudes to account for.

I personally don’t care whether they’re taking handoffs or catching it out of the backfield. It’s nice to know they have this highlighted.

Those dudes look scary. I expect we will see a lot more of them later in the season. No disrespect to CEH, he did work vs UT

Clyde made a great block on "the play" but he gets knocked backward continually. His size IS a factor like it or not. Gimme Emery any day.

He may be better in the long run, but how can you say that. Ceh has over 1000 yards in his career and Emery has like 50. You must be one hell of an evaluater ,if that's a word or how its spelled, to know he's better after 5 to 10 carries.

I feel you, but I don’t completely disagree with Bayou.

I don’t wanna make this another “who’s the best back” thread though — they all bring something a little different to the table & the point is that as the season progresses I expect to see them all getting more involved in the passing game & getting more touches as a unit...

And that should be fun to watch.

Re-watched the game tonight. Clyde & Lanard were overall weak in pass protection.Few decent receptions/runs but nothing spectacular. Assume O was more comfortable with their experience in a big road contest. Not sure if aggressive passing offense is solely due to a new aggressive philosophy or concerns regarding our running game. Either way, expect the youngsters to have more opportunity during these next few games.

Typical LSU fan - frick the veteran with 5.5 ypc, give me the true freshman getting 3.3 ypc.

I’m not at all worried about the RB pass game. Last week Burrow was just in a groove and confident in his throws so he kept his eyes downfield all night pushing the ball instead of checking down. Clyde is truly the perfect RB for this type of offense though.

There have been too many, but not excessive, failures by the RBs in pass protection. I'm going to say most are read failures. Some of them are spectacular failures because of the protection scheme of the OL was dependent on that.

In one case, that was highlighted in the broadcast, CEH didn't account for a blitzer (standing up, OLB, back from line) on the right when OL was in slide protection (quite common) to the left. That absolutely left anything coming from that right side his and his alone. He was peeking in at ILBs.

Now some of this is on Burrow for not seeing it either. But if CEH had recognized it, even after the snap, he had a choice, he could have blocked his zone. Or he could slipped out, without flaring, and gone straight to the vacated zone/area and given Burrow a quick <2 sec completion.

I would suspect that in this new O they have been taught that if you're not going to get to your spot for an effective block, which late recognition usually results in, release and present a target very very quickly. You kinda fake a block (doesn't have to be convincing) and on second stride after past rushing defender you turn and get hands up while backpedaling somewhat. If QB sees at last minute it is likely to be high because of back foot or lobbing over said defender, so you have to be going upfield to account for the high pass.

If they haven't been integrating this read into their protection scheme I can't imagine it won't be long. This is how to turn a sack into a 3rd and short 101. And save your OTs from looking like fools.
