You can use whatever measures you want BUT IT IS ONLY the first 3 years. Yes I get it that Wade didn’t have a full 3. You can use Record, rebuilding, sustainability short term, progress, X&Os, etc
Mine are:
Brady
Wade
Jones
Johnson
Brown

I liked the fact that Brady did a complete rebuild after and with sanctions. Impressive X&Os guy. IMO, Brady and Saban were a lot alike then - both intense X&O, but assholes.

Seems like Jones should be at the bottom of any list.

Look at this garbage arse list.

Wade hasn’t even finished a 2nd season let alone the 3rd and he is still better than the names you listed.

Somehow you have JJ over Daddy Dale and Trent

Brady wasn’t much of an offensive mind, so once his teams quit playing D after the final four season it was over for him.

I would flip Wade and Brady on your list.

Wade took a program that had quit the year before, almost completely turned over the roster, and had a respectable 1st season with 7 wins over NCAAT teams. He then won the SEC the next year going a remarkable 9-0 in conf. road games. He finished tied for 2nd this season and would have made the NCAAT. None of the other coaches made the NCAAT more than once in their first 3 years.

Brady finished last in the SECW his first two seasons, but he gets a VERY slight nod for #2 because he won the SEC with a great team in year 3 despite dealing with the prior sanctions.

Jones is #3 for me. He went 31-23 in SEC play in his first 3 seasons and didn't have a losing record in any of them. He also made the NCAAT once. Yes, he didn't fulfill the potential of those teams, but it is unfair to hold him COMPLETELY to his final two season when comparing his first 3 years to the other guys. In fact, I think you could argue he should be #2.

You could argue that Johnson should be #3 because he was a runaway winner of the conference in his first season, but when you follow that up with two straight 11-20 seasons and FIVE total wins in SEC play, you don't get the nod when compared to the other guys ahead of you.

Dale was building and Trent had 1 good/2 terrible years

Hated the JJ hire but his first 3 years:

20 wins (should’ve been in NIT)
NIT 2nd round
NCAA 1st round

JJ never won a tournament game. Trent at least won an SEC championship and a tourney game. He also played North Carolina closer than anyone else in the tourney that season.

Bingo. ‘06-‘07 was painful to watch, and the first few conference games the following year managed to be even worse.

Do you read?
Dale had a 36-40 record after 3 years. You must think he started in 78 and not 72 dumbass.

Johnny Jones was 61-35 and made an NIT and NCAA AFTER Trent.

Wade is 64-30 BUT AS I STATED a-hole, Wade didn’t finish this season. Last is done and he gets all the wins and losses. His teams made an NIT, a Sweet 16 and would very likely made NCAA this season.

Brady -WITH SANCTIONS FROM DADDY DALE- rebuilt a team and went 49-29 won the SEC and went to a sweet 16 with zero controversy.

Trent Johnson went 49-48 and won the SEC.

If you use record, there ya go.

I graduated in 72, and recall how we really felt about basketball - didn’t really care after Pete graduated and Dale inherited that. The issue was it took Brown until his 6th season before he finally had a decent team.
If that were today, he wouldn’t be coaching after 3 years. It was bad.
That’s the issue I have with judging a coach too early in their career. Saban wasn’t the best when he was at MSU, but was very good.

That's true. But Trent inherited a veteran roster from Brady that included Garrett Temple, Marcus Thornton, and Tasmin Mitchell (who had missed almost all of the previous season with injury). LSU was the runaway winner of the SEC that season for which Trent deserves absolute credit. However, you can't ignore the fact that was one of the worst seasons for SEC basketball in the last 20 years. If not for MSU making a surprise run to win the SECT, the league would have only gotten 2 teams in the NCAAT. It was that bad.

After those three guys left Johnson's program completely tanked. They suffered first back to back losing seasons in over 10 years

Johnson's first season was better than ANY season under Jones. But, cumulatively, his 2nd and 3rd seasons were the two worst seasons LSU had had since John Brady's first season (97-98)

Jabari Smith is still rising and throwing down with those FUNK DUNKS!

Hoping CWW can get his son onto campus. He looks outstanding. Can you imagine having him and Shaq’s son on campus at the same time? DUNK Fest.
