How can the entire WR group improve so much going from being coached by a 30yr NFL veteran coach to now being coached by a 28yr old guys that’s only been coaching a few years.

The improvement from every receiver top to bottom has been unbelievable this year. Is it more offensive philosophy change or different one-on-one coaching style?

They haven't improved

That's the dirty secret that people still can't come to terms with from the miles era

Sometimes you are offensive line looks like it sucks because your offensive coordinator sucks

Sometimes your quarterbacks look like they suck because your coach sucks

Sometimes your receivers look like they suck and can't get open because the play design sucks

I agree with what you are saying that scheme has put players in disadvantages in the past but this year they just seem to be at another level.

10,000 balls and jugs machine. Brady's swinging door thingy also helped according to Jefferson on "Hey Fightin" podcast.

Burrow throws a very catchable ball.

Good friend of mine has long advocated for use of jugs machines. Glad we finally implemented those

Eye-tracking glasses & Batman masks. Behind goalposts & closed doors.

How they trained their eyes and minds for a season that rests in their hands.

I highlighted this last year, but they shuffled WRs every series last year, sometimes mid-series.

So instead of having the 3 best guys out there, they would pull Jefferson or Chase out of the game last year to put in guys like Dillon & Sullivan. They did this at times even after Jefferson or Chase would score a touchdown. It was dumbfounding.

You think ok, this is just a temporary experiment, but it went on all season.

There’s a trickle down affect to Burrow because he goes from throwing to nfl WRs to just regular joe college WRs. Thus it’s hard to get into rhythm.

All of that being said, that isn’t happening this year & LSU is reaping the benefits of having their best players out on the field; how it should have always been,

for the most part I am agreeing with you.

I do think the WRs have improved technique significantly. They are making the right reads and getting off the line cleaner.

But the scheme has made the normal, mundane, regular as expected plays easier... not harder. Our old scheme made the the average hard and the above average insurmountable. Even the easy wasn't easy. Now everything just became easier, across the board.

Burrow has reads to actually make, instead of choosing between two receivers (on opposite sides of the field increasing the time to make 2 reads exponentially longer). With Cam the first read was always deep, then worked your way short. This offense decides the progression of reads based on what the D shows you. Deep to short, trips to flare, middle to sideline. Since the scheme allows a fluid priority in reads the first reads have a higher chance of success...

... since the first reads have a higher chance of success, the OL doesn't have to hold as long AND have an advantage (as compared to the past) in assignments because the same read QB making the OL is making, and now they are more on the same page.

Actually a few very well reasoned responses in this thread.

Good thread, WRA.
