So, I guess LSU with 2 national championships under its belt could not recruit any one of about 100 Div 1 QBs, including the Houston dude, to be their quarterback.

I'd take the Jack. St. freshman any day of the week.

Of course, you are correct. I meant two championships in this century. I wish the young men who play football for LSU all of the best. However, until we have better coaching to improve the play of the quarterbacks, it will be next century before we win another. I hope I am completely wrong and further hope that I might be around to see it.

Sometimes I wonder if Rivals and Scouts can evaluate the QB position. A lot of their 4 and 5 star QB's turn out to be bust and a lot of those 2 and 3 star guys go on to be very good. Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford were 3 star recruits. I see a lot of pretty decent looking QB's in the Mountain West, WAC and even Conference USA that could probably do better than the ones we have right now. I think a lot of these smaller schools just develop what they have better than we do. Look at Utah and Boise State. They rank in the 40's and 50's when the so called experts evaluate their recruiting classes yet they seem to develop their QB's. But in defense of our conference, it's not easy to be a dominate QB in the SEC. Best I remember Peyton Manning never beat Florida.`

Oh, hell, man, night after night I watch college football and see teams with better QB play than we have. Period. End of story. Why is that?

1. Many other QBs might and probably are better than JJ right now
2. Asa fan you are too emotionally invested in LSU and hence are more likely to see the QB flaws here whereas you are more likely to just remember and appreciate the highlights of another QB because the pedestrian plays don't stick to the mind.

OK, Dude. You've convinced me even though I was watching LSU football before you were born. I just don't see how a top 5 program (like I think we were) does not have a quarterback or does not train a quarterback as good (or well) as about 100 other formerly known as Div 1 football teams.

I think we just missed on our evaluation of QB's the last few years. We recruited well thought of QB's by the so called experts. And it sucks that Z. Lee turned pro in baseball because he more than likely could have been pretty good but for that kind of cash I can't blame him for leaving. LSU will find someone. It's not that long ago that we had the first player taken in the NFL draft in Russell, granted he has been a bust but he did okay at LSU, and Matt Flynn is doing well as Aaron Rodgers backup and will get his chance as a starter when his contract is up. I think every school misses on QB's from time to time and has 2 or 3 years before they get back to having quality depth at that position. Biggest QB mistake our coaching staff made was bringing in Perrilloux and not recruiting another one in that class. We were forced to play JJ and JL before they were ready and it has shown on the field the last two years.
